woman on laptopIn December, Social Security will launch a new service for my Social Security account holders where the public can check on the status of an application for benefits or an appeal filed with us.

The service will provide detailed information about retirement, disability, survivors, Medicare, and Supplemental Security Income claims and appeals filed either online on our website or with a Social Security employee.

The ability to check your application status will be available online to everyone who has or opens a secure personal my Social Security account. You can open an account on our website.

The service will provide important information about your claim or appeal, including, as appropriate:

  • Date of filing.
  • Current claim location.
  • Scheduled hearing date and time.
  • Incomplete applications.
  • Servicing office location.
  • Claim or appeal decision.

If you are unable to open a personal my Social Security account, you can still call 1-800-772-1213 to check your claim status by using our automated system using the confirmation number you received when you filed your claim.

Providing our customers with more claim status information helps us meet our goal of delivering innovative, quality services to you and helping secure today and tomorrow.

I have the same question – but I have not been able to find anything on my Social Security account. Would an appeals response show up in the Message Center? I used the website to file a non-medical appeal on Dec. 16, 2020, but have had no response or acknowledgment by phone, mail or online. I tried calling but after waiting and holding for a person, I got cut off. Thank you.

My husband applied for medicare and social security benefits under my eligibility for benefits ( spousal benefit) ,both to start on April,2021. His application said his application is 80 % complete and being reviewed on line. He has not submitted any foreign documents and homeland security documents/immigration as per instruction by mail but all face to face office is closed at this time. How long will he wait for Social security to contact him to start being concerned. He needs the medicare number for enrollment to a medicare advantage program for his health insurance.
Thank you for your kind response.

    • S.D.

Hi, Eleanor, and thanks for reading our blog. Based on your comments, it appears your husband has already checked his application status online with his my Social Security account.
