A COVID-19 Update from Our Commissioner

I want you to hear directly from me how the COVID-19 pandemic is affecting our services. The first thing you should know is that we continue to pay benefits. Be aware that scammers may try to trick you into thinking the pandemic is stopping your Social Security payments but that is not true. Don’t be fooled.
To protect you and help stop the spread of this coronavirus, we cannot accept visitors in our offices at this time. There are several other ways you can get help. Many services are available online. If you have a critical need that you cannot address online, we can help you over the phone.
Please visit our website to find out what services we are continuing and which ones we are suspending, how to contact us, and important information about deadlines we are extending to ease the burden on you and medical providers during this pandemic.

I am o disability. I get my check directly deposited. I check daily regarding stimulus package. It either says not enough info or to and yesterday in now says it does not recognize me. Do I need to do anything????

If receiving social security disability on a direct express card, how will recipients receive their stimulus check?

Hi Tammy, thank you for your question. Social Security retirement, survivors, or disability beneficiaries and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients who do not have qualifying children under age 17 do not need to take any action with the IRS. You will automatically receive your $1,200 economic impact payment directly from the IRS. You should receive the automatic payments by direct deposit, Direct Express debit card, or by paper check, just as you would normally receive your Social Security benefits. Treasury expects automatic payments for Social Security beneficiaries no later than the end of April and automatic payments for SSI recipients no later than early May. We hope this helps.

im drawing social security, and even though i havent worked in 11 years, will i still get a check. im raising 4 kids that i adopted for the past 12-13 years, and i havent gotten anything resembling a stimulis check

I posted yesterday I went on the irs.gov site and it told me mine would be deposited on April 29th, this Wed. I checked my bank this morning and it was in there. now, my bank always deposits my monthly check on Fridays, before the Wed it is scheduled to go in the bank. Each bank has the option to do that. my old bank wouldnt make the funds available until that Wed, no doubt in my mind they were just holding it to make the interest. Interest off mine wouldnt be much, but it you have a 1000 or so you are holding for 4 days each month, that is 48 days each year a bank can hold that money and make interest off your money.
Anyway, got side tracked.
I am on SSDI, so if you have that and have had your check deposited each month, be looking from today till Wed. It should be there by then

A family member died 3/29/2020 due to Coronavirus, the children used the April monthly funds to bury her but the family still have to pay for remainder cost. Should they take the May benefits to pay or send it back to SS?

It was my experience that if they are not dependent children receiving SSI because of parents death, they will have to repay the April money they used.

Hi there. We are very sorry for your loss. To be eligible for a Social Security benefit payment, a person has to live throughout the entire month. We can’t pay benefits for the month of death. If the deceased was receiving Social Security benefits, you must return the benefit received for the month of death or any later months. Keep in mind that Social Security benefits are paid the month after they are due. For example, if the person dies in March, you must return the benefit paid in April and continuing. I filled out the non- filers info but still didn’t get the extra $500 for my child

They are having issues with that. May have to wait until they are caught up i believe end of september phones will be active again. Then contact them. Your not the only one to not receive dependent stimulus. Even my daughter who filed both 18 and 19 didnt receive hers for her son. Many people havent. So recommend you update that non filers form and contact them when phones are back up and running.
