I created n account but it has been years since I have logged into it. I don’t remember my secret questions. Now that I am getting close to retirement I am trying to log in but can’t. I want to see if I can retire at age 65. This is so frustrating. I can’t get a social security statement either.

    Hello,
How can i know if my childs ssn is used?
I want to be sure my childrens SSN is not used by anyone as i do not intend to use it until they grow and need it.
to be sure no one is using it, i will like to know what to do to check their status.

    Thanks

    • A.C.

Hi, Ramatu. If you believe someone has misused your child’s Social Security number to create credit or other problems for your child, Social Security cannot resolve these issues. You should go to http://www.idtheft.gov and report the identity theft to the Federal Trade Commission. That website is a one-stop national resource to learn about the crime of identity theft. It provides detailed information to help you deter, detect and defend against identity theft. We hopes this helps.

I tried to set up a my Social Security account and it said I couldn’t. I don’t know if I have one already but I tried to say I forgot my user name and it told me when I put in my email, my social security number and my birthday–which was correct–it said the info wasn’t correct and to try again. I don’t know what to do now.

Cannot get into my account anymore….A couple of Mos.. ago some man called and the voice said that there was problem with someone having used my SSA and my account was closed for some fraud…He had a strong Asian accent ..He wanted to know my address, and other personal information and I told him that I would not give him my personal information as it sounded like a scam and I hung up..No one ever sent me a letter from SSA telling me I had fraud on my account. I don’t call SSA as it takes too, too, too long to talk to someone….I will start to open a new account. My phone number is 206-489-8547.

    • A.C.

Thanks for checking in with us, Ybarra. We do not usually make random calls. If anyone receives calls saying that they are from Social Security, do not give out any personal information. Suspicious calls should be reported to the Office of the Inspector General at 1-800-269-0271 or online. You can also report these scams to the Federal Trade Commission through a new site specific to Social Security scams, here. You can find additional information here. Just a reminder – please be cautious about posting personal information on social media. We hope this helps.
