Have you ever received a Social Security Statement in the mail? You know, the one that shows all the earnings you’ve had each year and how much you could receive per month in Social Security benefits when you retire? The Statement contains crucial information workers need to plan for a comfortable retirement. Now, thanks to my Social Security, this information—and so much more— is only a few minutes away!
Your personal my Social Security account is secure and gives you ready access to your earnings records, Social Security benefit estimates, and printable Statements. Those who already receive benefits can view their payment history, current status, and manage their benefits.
To open a personal my Social Security account, go to our website and select “Create an Account” to get started. You must be 18 years old, have a valid Social Security number, U.S. mailing address (or a military address if deployed overseas), and an email address.

•Call us at 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778), Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. At the voice prompt, say “helpdesk”; or

Hi Patricia. For a copy of a W-2, you should contact your employer’s human resource or personnel office. If you are referring to the SSA-1099 showing the amount of benefits paid to SSA beneficiaries during last year, you can request a replacement SSA-1099/1042S for Tax Year 2018 by visiting http://go.usa.gov/ZSvm. I have an account created years ago. So I didn’t get a report in the mail. But the problem is I had no way to know I had to go online to get the amount paid to me. Now I can’t file my Federal Taxes 1040 since I don’t have the Social Security papers telling me how much was paid to me. It’s April 1 and they say I can’t sign in for maybe 15 days. Looks like the SS administration figured out a way that they could force people to have pay a penalty for filing late.

So since I cannot remember my credentials I have to wait 10 days. And you send something by regular mail. Nothing else works on the internet like that. So what do I do if I can’t log in and find how much I got paid before time to file a 1040?
Have to figure the government can screw up something so simple. You change things, don’t tell anyone, and now what are people who file close to the deadline going to do, if they don’t remember sign-in credentials.

If you suspect someone is using your Social Security number, you should go to http://www.idtheft.gov and report the theft to the Federal Trade Commission or call 1-877-IDTHEFT (1-877-438-4338). In addition, you can order free credit reports annually from the three major credit bureaus (Equifax, Experian and Trans Union).
