It’s hard to get answers for a SS recipients that live oversea. I’m trying to open an account for my son (16yrs), that way I can monitor, have access to his Form SSA-1099 to complete my income tax for 2017 and it’s impossible to accomplish this task also can’t contact by email an associate from SS. Should be special access for SS recipients that live overseas; by phone is close to impossible to conduct business and by corresponds is incredible and time consume to get anything finalize.

    • R.F.

We are sorry for the inconvenience, Felix. Individuals must be at least 18 years of age to be able to create a my Social Security account. Also, the “my Social Security” authentication system requires address verification as one of the essential criteria for issuing an account. People with APO/FPO/DPO addresses can create an account overseas, but our system does not support registration and account creation for users with a foreign address yet.
Please contact your local U.S. embassy or consulate for any assistance related to your Social Security benefits. You have the option to contact the local Federal Benefits Unit in the embassy, via email.
Also, our Office of International Operations home page provides more information to assist our customers living abroad. We do not have a toll-free number people can call from outside the United States. You may contact the Office of International Operations, but you will have to pay for the call. We hope this information helps!
