Earlier this week, The White House issued national guidance regarding Opening Up America Again. We are evaluating this information as it relates to our agency and are continuing to closely monitor the COVID-19 situation across the nation. In fulfilling Social Security’s mission, when we reopen offices to the public, we will provide a safe environment for both the people we serve and our employees.

As we continue to develop our plans, our offices will remain closed to the public for face-to-face service, and our employees will continue to work remotely and provide services to the public. We will provide updates moving forward and post updated information on the status of our offices, by state, at our website. Our agency will provide these updates directly, and please disregard other sources of information regarding the status of our offices.

We will continue to provide the vital service the public relies on. Please visit our website for more information about our services during the pandemic.

I had my hearing March 18,2020 with a favorable decision, I am waiting for the decision in writing and my benefits reinstated along with 16 months of back pay. I have a paper file and my file is just sitting in someone’s desk until you reopen, Ive written Congress and my situation is now a priority, along with letters from my attorney. Please let me know what we can do about this? When will you reopen?

Hi, Marie. For your security, we do not have access to private information in this venue. We ask that members in our Blog community work with our offices with specific questions. You can contact your local Social Security office. You can ask to speak to a manager on your next call. We hope this is resolved soon.

When will offices re-open? They should absolutely be re-opened by now for “appointment-only”. I do not feel comfortable mailing all of my personal information (USPS already lost my marriage license this month).

    • Ann C.

How can I get a replacement ss card?

    • Vonda V.

Hi Jeanette, thank you for your question. First, realize you may not need a replacement card. You will rarely need to show it. Knowing your Social Security number is what is important. However, if you must get a replacement card, you may be able to apply online. Check out our Frequently Asked Questions web page for details on how to apply for a replacement Social Security card. If you are unable to apply online and you do not want to mail in your documents, which will be returned, you may need to wait for the offices to reopen. Use our Social Security Office Locator to find your local office address. We hope this helps.

In the mean time all application policies (Medicare, etc.), Remain on “In person” schedules. You need to
Extend application expiration to accommodate this
Situation or open up as other business has
