Earlier this week, The White House issued national guidance regarding Opening Up America Again. We are evaluating this information as it relates to our agency and are continuing to closely monitor the COVID-19 situation across the nation. In fulfilling Social Security’s mission, when we reopen offices to the public, we will provide a safe environment for both the people we serve and our employees.

As we continue to develop our plans, our offices will remain closed to the public for face-to-face service, and our employees will continue to work remotely and provide services to the public. We will provide updates moving forward and post updated information on the status of our offices, by state, at our website. Our agency will provide these updates directly, and please disregard other sources of information regarding the status of our offices.

We will continue to provide the vital service the public relies on. Please visit our website for more information about our services during the pandemic.

I just wish to find out if offices in Nevada are now open for face to face appointments for those applying for new social security cards.

    • Vonda V.

Hi Terence, thanks for using our blog. We continue to process Social Security Numbers and issue cards for certain lawful immigrants, we call these processes Enumeration at Entry (EAE) and Enumeration beyond Entry(EBE).

If these automated processes are not available to you, we may be able to offer an in-office appointment for a new card request based on available staff and office operating status. Please call your local office to see if an in-office appointment is necessary and possible. To contact your local office, please look for the local office telephone number at the Social Security Office Locator under “Social Security Office Information” for the office you select. The toll-free “Office” number is your local office.

When will offices open??? I cannot get my name changed online as original documents are required and I cannot send my driver’s license through the mail. Concessions should be made to do this service online as well. Information can be verified through DMV offices and court house.
I am not the only one frustrated as I cannot complete my name change, payroll, health insurance information at my job until I receive it. HELP ME TO OBTAIN IT. My local office is no help. WHEN WILL OFFICES OPEN.

  6. Sandy

Just wondering when offices will open in Minnesota. My daughter doesn’t want to mail her original marriage document. She can’t change her name, or credit card or even get a passport.

Please tell me they will open soon.

I have been trying to sign up for SSI benefits and for some reason, I keep receiving a message that says the website cannot verify my identity with the information I provided. I find this very frustrating and I need these benefits as I cannot hold a job due to my PTSD and major Anxiety/Depression issues. Also, it’s very frustrating having to be on hold for almost an HOUR on the phone..

Hi, I am in the US under a TN Visa, In order to start working I need to get a SSN for the first time. I called Seattle Metro office, and they just told me that I need to wait until they re-open. Is not an essential service to get the SSN? Without one I cannot work, get a bank account and it’s hard to find a place to live. Do you have any options that is not just to call the local office to get a “Wait until re-open” answer?

    Thanks

I wish they would have drop boxes outside the buildings. I really do not like having to mail important papers besides the amount of time it takes
