Earlier this week, The White House issued national guidance regarding Opening Up America Again. We are evaluating this information as it relates to our agency and are continuing to closely monitor the COVID-19 situation across the nation. In fulfilling Social Security’s mission, when we reopen offices to the public, we will provide a safe environment for both the people we serve and our employees.

As we continue to develop our plans, our offices will remain closed to the public for face-to-face service, and our employees will continue to work remotely and provide services to the public. We will provide updates moving forward and post updated information on the status of our offices, by state, at our website. Our agency will provide these updates directly, and please disregard other sources of information regarding the status of our offices.

We will continue to provide the vital service the public relies on. Please visit our website for more information about our services during the pandemic.

My mom is 87 years old and just she got her Permanent Resident Card. She need her Social Security card. How she can get that card? If the offices still close?

    • Vonda V.

Hi Julia. We will continue to process SSNs and issue cards for certain lawful immigrants [we call these processes Enumeration at Entry (EAE) and Enumeration beyond Entry(EBE)].

If these automated processes are not available to you, we may be able to offer an in-office appointment for a new card request based on available staff and office operating status. Please call your local office to see if an in-office appointment is necessary and possible. To contact your local office, please look for the local office telephone number at Social Security Office Locator under “Social Security Office Information” for the office you select. The toll-free “Office” number is your local office.

One major problem is for new resident aliens who have recently enumerated to the USA. My daughter-in-law arrived from abroad on a newly-approved USA visa mid March. She was supposed to automatically receive her social security card within 3-4 weeks upon arrival. She has called both the national and local offices but receives no assistance and varying answers. It is now 9 weeks out and she and my son are extremely frustrated. Your online services do not help in this situation. Obviously she needs her SSN for a driver’s license, job, banking, etc.

Please, what does she need to do to get assistance???

You cannot provide service for me with offices closed. I cannot mail in original documents, some of which are $350 to replace. I’ve had my share of dealings with mail theft. No thanks.

Y’all didn’t seem to hesitate to withhold SS from my paychecks. How exactly am I different now than then? This is creating a hardship for us.

Before I can change my name for work as well as other legal institutions, I need to change my name and get a new SS card. I will not send my drivers license through the mail as it is a government issued document which is unlawful to be without. When can I expect the OKC SSA offices to reopen?

I have been on hold for five days from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and my call has never been answered. I have emailed 3 times and have received no response. I was overpaid, received notice, wrote a check for the full amount and sent it in. Got second notice, ignored it because it was paid. Got 3rd notice threatening negative report on my credit report, wage garnishment, etc. Check has never been cashed. Whose desk is it sitting on ? Is noone monitoring the USMail.

I realize how difficult this situation is however I sincerely wish Andrew Saul, Commissioner, Social Security Administration would have simply said :

Social Security Offices currently are closed . We are uncertain of a date when they will reopen.

Please check periodically for updates on this matter.
