Supplemental Security Income Recipients Will Receive Automatic COVID-19 Economic Impact Payments

The Treasury Department announced that Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients will receive automatic Economic Impact Payments directly from the Treasury Department. Treasury anticipates these automatic payments to go out no later than early May.
SSI recipients with no qualifying children do not need to take any action in order to receive their $1,200 economic impact payment. The payments will be automatic.
SSI recipients who have qualifying children under age 17, however, should not wait for their automatic $1,200 individual payment. They should now go to the IRS’s webpage and visit the Non-Filers: Enter Your Payment Info section to provide their information. By taking proactive steps to enter information on the IRS website about them and their qualifying children, they will also receive the $500 per dependent child payment in addition to their $1,200 individual payment. If SSI beneficiaries in this group do not provide their information to the IRS soon, they will have to wait until later to receive their $500 per qualifying child.
This is great news for SSI recipients, and I want to remind recipients with qualifying children to go to IRS.gov soon so that you will receive the full amount of the Economic Impact Payments you and your family are eligible for. I also want to thank the dedicated employees of the Treasury Department, Social Security, and the Internal Revenue Service for making this happen and working non-stop on this issue.
SSI Recipients with Dependent Children Should Still Go To IRS.gov to Provide Their Information
Social Security retirement, survivors, and disability insurance beneficiaries (who don’t normally file taxes) will also qualify for automatic payments of $1,200 from Treasury. These payments are anticipated to start arriving around the end of April.
The Treasury Department, not Social Security, will make these automatic payments to beneficiaries. Recipients will generally receive the automatic payments by direct deposit, Direct Express debit card, or by paper check, just as they would normally receive their SSI or Social Security benefits.
For those SSI and Social Security retirement, survivors, and disability insurance beneficiaries, with dependent children, who use Direct Express debit cards, additional information will be available soon regarding the steps to take when claiming children under 17, on the IRS website.
Please note that the agency will not consider Economic Impact Payments as income for SSI recipients, and the payments are excluded from resources for 12 months.

It’s sad to read all of these comments from people in need. I am on SSDI in remission with a 14 year old at home. We all have had added expenses the last couple months but we are lucky that we received any money at all. There are some people that are worse off than us. I get $150 in fs a month. I don’t care if I eat much I just want my 14 year old fed and taken care of. It’s to the point where the food banks have no food to give us anymore here. They gave us $100 extra food stamps last month but with the high prices at grocery stores it’s gone with 15 items. I just wish they would have given us even an extra $200 by now just to buy food to feed our families. It’s heartbreaking being told your going to get something extra and having to wait this long to receive it. We are all struggling and uncertain what the world is going to look like in the future. I’m down to no food with a hungry 14 year old. I see how many of these food programs didn’t last long after the demand became so high. Nothing is certain right now but we on SSDI ssi vs are all in the same boat just hoping that someone will help us soon. We all should understand how each other feels and some of these comments on here are just hurtful and uncalled for. I pray that we will all get this money soon to help buy food or pay bills because we all know thats where the money will go for us low income people. We all need help right now in some way and we are all hurting so hopefully some sort of help will come this week.

I don’t understand why some ssi people are getting notifications that their checks will be sent out 22 or 24 or something like it, but when I go to do non filers, I enter how much I got last year (a whole 5422.00) I fill all the info in, every thing I double check, and I get an email later that its rejected. My status is unknown like the lady above. I have ssdi. maybe some of us are just getting screwed over.

For the spouse not receiving benefits, please provide information to the IRS by using the Non-Filers: Enter Payment Info Here tool or by filing a federal income tax return. You must provide this additional information before your additional $1,200 payment is scheduled. Hopefully this helps.

I have SSI only and the IRS website only listed SSDI as getting their payments automatically so I filled out the non-filers and it was accepted. Now the IRS website list SSI as getting it automatically and to not fill out the form. I hope by filling that form out that I haven’t ended up getting my payment delayed because the current information at the time was misleading and confusing.

if its still saying status unknown, at this point in time, is it safe to say I am just not getting anything? i tried to submit for non filer, it rejected me. i don’t file taxes… i have had ssi and social security retirement for over 10 years.

If you have SSI or as retirement you don’t have to do anything you will get up..please go to IRS.gov and read carefully what they are doing ..do your own research don’t take another person word as final not even mine…some people here are giving true information others are just playing head games…but it’s all online so don’t get discourage…
