Supplemental Security Income Recipients, Act Now – Go to IRS.gov – A Message from Social Security Commissioner Andrew Saul

Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients who don’t file tax returns will start receiving their automatic Economic Impact Payments directly from the Treasury Department in early May. People receiving SSI benefits who did not file 2018 or 2019 taxes, and have qualifying children under age 17, however, should not wait for their automatic $1,200 individual payment. They should immediately go to the IRS’s webpage and visit the Non-Filers: Enter Your Information section to provide their information. SSI recipients who have dependent children and did not file 2018 or 2019 taxes need to act by Tuesday, May 5, in order to receive additional payments for their eligible children quickly.

By taking this proactive step to enter information on the IRS website about them and their qualifying children, they will also receive the $500 per dependent child payment in addition to their $1,200 individual payment. If people in this group do not provide their information to the IRS soon, their payment at this time will be $1,200 only. They would then be required to file a tax year 2020 tax return to obtain the additional $500 per eligible child.

I urge SSI recipients with qualifying children and who do not normally file taxes to take action now. Immediately go to IRS.gov so that you will receive the full amount of the Economic Impact Payments you and your family are eligible for.

Lastly, a word of caution. Be aware of scams related to the Economic Impact Payments. There is no fee required to receive these payments. Don’t be fooled.

I receive SSDI and do not file. My husband doesn’t receive SSDI and didnt have to file as well so we made sure to go on the non filers and complete all of our info. It was accepted right away and approved right away and that was right when it first came out in early April and we still haven’t received anything, neither one of us. I read all the info and we are both qualified for it but everywhere that we look shows that either they are missing info or we are not qualified. I tried to efile thru free efile which we also qualify for but because it’s a 0 income for the agi in the end after putting our income and taking standard deductions, it will not allow us to efile but only send it in which I’m not going to do because it nowhere states that you don’t qualify for efile if you have a 0 agi there’s just a specific amount you can’t be over. I know ppl who have owed taxes for years and haven’t paid they’re taxes and owe a lot of money they never have paid for and ppl who have never worked a day in their lives and they have all gotten their $1200 or $2400 (when married) checks but we have done everything by the book and still haven’t gotten anything and I did provide my direct deposit from what I use for my SSDI payments and put it also on the non filers info as well and its said on TV there are only 20 million more who haven’t received theirs yet and even ppl who are dead have gotten theirs but I did everything necessary at the start of all this getting it in before all the ppl who scam the govt yet they get there’s a month before me so far and I put my info in a month before they did & I know it doesn’t matter if they owe taxes or not, they still get it but it’s really disgusting that those ppl get those before ppl who do everything the right way and at the start of it all. I also have no way to get help and find out what’s going on in my and my husbands stimulus payments and nowhere on the irs website shows me any help or any reason or problem that needs to be fixed, it shows nothing and I have no info on who I can speak to in order to figure this out and we could really use this right now. We really need this in order to get by and survive!

SSI and SSDI here. Direct Deposit all info same for years and no payment here either. You are not alone.

      • Candi

They updated the info on ssa.gov under economic impact payments link at the top of the page. Click on there to read what ha been updated. It states that if you have a payee, your payee should receive the money by the 27th of this month. They have not given a date as to when the checks will be mailed if you used the non filer tool without giving direct deposit info. Hope that helps.
