Supplemental Security Income Recipients, Act Now – Go to IRS.gov – A Message from Social Security Commissioner Andrew Saul

Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients who don’t file tax returns will start receiving their automatic Economic Impact Payments directly from the Treasury Department in early May. People receiving SSI benefits who did not file 2018 or 2019 taxes, and have qualifying children under age 17, however, should not wait for their automatic $1,200 individual payment. They should immediately go to the IRS’s webpage and visit the Non-Filers: Enter Your Information section to provide their information. SSI recipients who have dependent children and did not file 2018 or 2019 taxes need to act by Tuesday, May 5, in order to receive additional payments for their eligible children quickly. 

By taking this proactive step to enter information on the IRS website about them and their qualifying children, they will also receive the $500 per dependent child payment in addition to their $1,200 individual payment. If people in this group do not provide their information to the IRS soon, their payment at this time will be $1,200 only. They would then be required to file a tax year 2020 tax return to obtain the additional $500 per eligible child.

I urge SSI recipients with qualifying children and who do not normally file taxes to take action now. Immediately go to IRS.gov so that you will receive the full amount of the Economic Impact Payments you and your family are eligible for.

Lastly, a word of caution. Be aware of scams related to the Economic Impact Payments. There is no fee required to receive these payments. Don’t be fooled.

    I would like know if because i am a social security retiree and on ssi would i be eligible for a second stimulus check considering i received one from working i filed a 2019 tax return. They sent me a stimulus in april but i would like to know would i be eligible because i am on social security?

    Hi i wanted to know something my husband mother gets ssi and her Direct Express card says it will be there tmr the stimulus money but i have bank of America i called and they said they dont see anything yet i gett ssi on that card but is it going to be there tmr

      Man there are tons of people on SSDI, SSR, and RRB that haven’t received our EIP yet and we haven’t been able to get answers for 2 weeks now. We were suppose to have been paid by the end of April. The SSA and the IRS are still saying we should have been paid yet look at all the non SSI comments and you’ll see what I’m talking about.

      Welcome to our world because you will not get a constructive answer from SSA or IRS. You’re lucky if you show up in the GetMyPayment tool because many of us (SSDI,SSR, red) have been getting status not available for weeks now when our data was supposedly transferred the barge IRS in April.

    I file a tax return and never get a refund. I am also on Social Security. Where is my stimulus direct deposit? As of today 5/12 nothing has been deposited

          Don’t listen to people trying to cause problems and make you worry even more. My rep. payee is a family member and I sat there and listened to the direct express card information when they called it. Nothing besides the normal monthly payment has been deposited and no deposit for 1200.00 is pending. Not to mention it states on the SSA website that the IRS has not yet determined when and how people with rep. payees will be paid the stimulus money. The stimulus information has not been updated since last week, so we just have to wait and hope they gives us some good news soon.
