Can a receipant working report monthly wages on line yet? What is the best way to report wages?
R.F.
Thank you for your question, Constance. If you receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payments, you may report your wages by telephone or by mobile app. Contact your local Social Security office to determine what options are available to you.
Individuals receiving Social Security disability benefits (SSDI) and their representative payees may use their personal my Social Security account to report wages online.
When you receive Social Security (retirement) benefits and work at the same time, we usually ask that you call us or contact your local office and give us an estimate of your earnings for the year.
Whether you are receiving SSI or Social Security Disability/Retirement benefits, it is very important that you keep Social Security informed about your work and how much money, or wages, you are making. Failure to report your wages may result in an overpayment. We hope this information helps!

My daughter receives SSD. SSA withheld $17,000 for attorneys fees, almost one year ago. We have tried with letters, calls, the attorney called from ODAR and they keep stalling not to return her money.. They know the attorney was fired plus he never filed the petition for fees. Now they tell us to wait for the Payment Center to contact her. How do we get the funds she is entitled to? My daughter was diagnosed with mental illness.
R.F.
Hi Lori. Unfortunately, but for security reasons, we do not have access to personal records in this blog. Please continue working with your local office. You can request to speak with the manager to see how we can help to expedite resolution of your situation. If you are unable to visit the local office, you can call our toll free number at 1-800-772-1213, representatives are available Monday through Friday, between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Generally, you will have a shorter wait time if you call later in the week.
Also, you can write to us or send us an email message. Thanks!

Can she register on line,
Or does she have to go to a social security office?
Lonnie s.
My wife just turned 64 1/2. I was told that she has to register with social security as to notify SS that she plans to receive benefits once she gets 67yrs old. It’s this true?
R.F.
Hello Lonnie, our system is set up to take applications for benefits three months in advance.
We recommend that individuals within three months of age 65 or older and not ready to start their monthly (cash) retirement benefits sign up for Medicare -ONLY- and apply for their retirement benefits at a later date.
Please visit our Social Security Retirement Planner for more information.

R.F.
Hello Jesse, our system is set up to take applications three months in advance and you can apply for your benefits online. Remember that benefits are paid the month after they are due. So, for instance, if you want your benefits to begin with the month of September, you will receive your first benefit payment in October.
