If I apply for Social Security at 62 I was told in the SS Office that I could suspend and re file when I’m 70, Are there any penalties would I have to pay back the money?

    Thank you

I have not received my social security check yet for this month?

  4. Susan B.

I am trying to see if I can set up a “my account” online. I am American but live in Germany. I will be returning to the US when I retire (in about 4 years.)
But the directions state I need an American mailing address? Right now I do not have one unless I use one from someone in my family.
(Right now I do get periodic letters through the post) sent to my Düsseldorf address from SS.
There are links asking this question, but they do not connect to an answer. Can you please instruct me?

Hi, Susan. We’re sorry for any inconvenience. You will need a U.S. address to register for a my Social Security account. Since you are living outside of the U.S. you can contact your local Federal Benefits Unit for any assistance related to Social Security benefits. Also, our Office of International Operations home page provides more information to assist our customers living abroad. We hope this helps.

I have an appointment on September 18th I have been asked to bring a copy of my husband death certificate. I have the short form will that be acceptable? I’m applying for spousal benefits

    • L.A.

Hi Betty. We are sorry to hear about your loss. Typically, the funeral director notifies us of an individual’s passing by sending the deceased person’s death certificate to the local Social Security office. The short form death certificate may be enough, however, you may want to contact the Social Security office where you have the appointment to verify if there is any other requirement. We hope this helps.

I used to be able to check what date my benefit would be credited to my checking account, but I can no longer find that information on your site. If it is still possible, how do I do that?

    Thank You,

Is there a way to receive electronic notification of deposit of a monthly SS check.
Currently we have to check the bank account daily to see when the deposit was made.

My brother has passed away and his S.S. disability checks are still being deposited into his checking account. What can I do to straighten this out.

  9. Sherry M.

My dad died. what do I do to stop benefits?

    • L.A.

Hi Sherry. We are sorry to hear about your loss. Typically, the funeral director notifies us of an individual’s passing by sending the deceased person’s death certificate to their local Social Security office. However, you may also report a death yourself by submitting the deceased individual’s death certificate to your local Social Security office. You may also call our toll-free number 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778) to make the report. We hope this helps.
