  8. Maryzon A.

I married a US citizen for 16 years. And I am 3 years disable due to the cancer, I want to know if I am entitled to claim a disability benefits.

    • A.C.

Hi, Maryzon. Thanks for your question. We pay disability benefits through two programs: the Social Security disability insurance program (SSDI) and the Supplemental Security Income (SSI). SSI is a needs based disability program that pays benefits to people with limited income and resources who are disabled, blind, or age 65 or older. Blind or disabled children may also get SSI.

SSDI pays benefits to those who cannot work due to a disability that is expected to last at least one year or result in death, providing the person has paid enough into the Social Security program. There are times when people can receive both SSI and SSDI, depending on their situation and whether they meet the requirements. For more information on Disability benefits, please visit here. We hope this helps!
