man on laptop We’re with you through life’s journey, putting you in control of your finances and future. Social Security has made requesting or replacing your annual Benefit Statement even easier. The Benefit Statement is also known as the SSA-1099 or the SSA-1042S. Now you have the ability to download it anytime and anywhere you want using our online services. There’s no need to visit a field office.

An SSA-1099 is a tax form Social Security mails each year in January to people who receive Social Security benefits. It shows the total amount of benefits you received from Social Security in the previous year so you know how much Social Security income to report to IRS on your tax return.

If you currently live in the United States and you need a replacement form SSA-1099 or SSA-1042S, simply go online and request an instant, printable replacement form with a personal my Social Security account.

A replacement SSA-1099 or SSA-1042S is typically available for the previous tax year after February 1.

If you already have a personal my Social Security account, you should access your online account and go to “Replacements Documents” to view and print your SSA-1099 or SSA-1042S. If you don’t have access to a printer, you can save the document on your computer or laptop and email it. If you don’t have a personal my Social Security account, creating a secure account is very easy to do and usually takes less than 15 minutes.

If you’re a noncitizen who lives outside of the United States and you received or repaid Social Security benefits last year, we will send you form SSA-1042S instead. The forms SSA-1099 and SSA-1042S are not available for people who receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI).

Securing today and tomorrow isn’t always easy, but Social Security continues to improve our customer service with easy to use online features. Visit our website for more information.

You have sent 10 new passcodes and only one worked and when I tried to apply for 1099 form showing earnings, I could not get it. Please send the form that everyone is supposed to send to people that earn money.

I am a Federal Fiduciary for a retired veteran who is suffering from Demencia(Alzheimers). I am in the process of doing his 2017 Form 1040. However he does not have his 2017 Form SSA-1099. Since he is not mobile I can not take him to the local Soc Sec Office and they will not give me a replacement. It is not legal for me to open a “My Social Security Account” in his behalf, so how can I obtain a replacement copy?

    • R.F.

Thank you for your question, Carlos. Social Security takes protecting the public’s personal information very seriously. The Privacy Act prohibits Federal agencies from disclosing personal information without the person’s consent, except under certain conditions.
It does sound as if the individual you’re trying to help needs a Representative Payee to help managing his Social Security benefits.
A representative payee will have access to information on the individual’s record. When friends or family are not able to serve as payees, Social Security looks for qualified organizations to be representative payees.
For further assistance, please call our toll free number at 1-800-772-1213. Representatives are available Monday through Friday, between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Or contact the local Social Security office directly.
We thank you for helping our veterans and we hope you understand our role in protecting everyone’s personal information.

I AM a U.S. citizen living overseas. Since I don’t have a U.S. address, I can’t open an account online. I have not received my form SSA1099 (benefits statement) and have gotten no response from the overseas consulate that handles people living in Bermuda. I need the form to file my 2017 federal tax return. Is there anyone I can contact to actually get some service?
