New Guidance about COVID-19 Economic Impact Payments

“The Treasury Department launched a new web tool allowing quick registration for Economic Impact Payments for eligible individuals who do not normally file a tax return, and also announced that it would begin making automatic payments.  However, for some people receiving benefits from the Social Security Administration—specifically those who have dependent children under the age of 17—it is to their advantage to go to this portal to ensure they also get the $500 per dependent Economic Impact Payment.  I encourage them to do this as soon as possible, and want to provide the following details:

People who receive Social Security retirement, survivors, or disability insurance benefits and who did not file a tax return for 2018 or 2019 and who have qualifying children under age 17 should now go to the IRS’s webpage to enter their information instead of waiting for their automatic $1,200 Economic Impact Payment.  By taking proactive steps to enter information on the IRS website about them and their qualifying children, they will also receive the $500 per dependent child payment in addition to their $1,200 individual payment.  If Social Security beneficiaries in this group do not provide their information to the IRS soon, they will have to wait to receive their $500 per qualifying child.

The same new guidance also applies to SSI recipients, especially those who have qualifying children under age 17.  To receive the full amount of the Economic Impact Payments you and your family are eligible for, go to the IRS’s Non-Filers: Enter Payment Info page and provide information about yourself and your qualifying children.

Additionally, any new beneficiaries since January 1, 2020, of either Social Security or SSI benefits, who did not file a tax return for 2018 or 2019, will also need to go to the IRS’s Non-Filers website to enter their information.

Lastly, for Social Security retirement, survivors, or disability beneficiaries who do not have qualifying children under age 17, you do not need to take any action with the IRS.  You will automatically receive your $1,200 economic impact payment directly from the IRS as long as you received an SSA-1099 for 2019.

For SSI recipients who do not have qualifying children under age 17, we continue to work closely with Treasury in our efforts to make these payments automatically.  Please note that we will not consider Economic Impact Payments as income for SSI recipients.

The eligibility requirements and other information about the Economic Impact Payments can be found at the IRS’s Coronavirus Tax Relief and Economic Impact Payments page.  In addition, please continue to visit the IRS for the latest information.”

this is stupid, you can’t say what you really think about this. Your just amusing yours & wasting your time.

Take your meds, boomer. Not everyone is a social reject like certain boomers that obsess over the funds other people receive.

Word of advice. Get a life and mind your own.

Christ, I can see why your all collecting SSI or SSDI, you need a psychiatrist. Your all in a big hurry to get a few bucks that won’t last you 24 hours, some drug dealer will be standing next to you waiting for your money. Its like Christmas in April. Next year the government will be trying to figure a way to get the money back out of you, or your local drug dealer. I’m trying to figure out why we need this extra money in the first place. I got my check, paid my bills, still have food & food stamps, but don’t go out to get anything. Gas got cheaper, so its not that. What exactly do you need the money for ? If your staying in your house like you should be doing, you won’t be spending a dime. Of course you will need pot, meth or heroin (maybe more booze), but that can be delivered by the crack head who isn’t wearing a mask & delivering the virus with it. Or for the fat dude, more pizza & doughnuts to give him high blood sugar & send him to the hospital. I’d just like to hear what you are going to do with all this extra welfare money. Me, I think I’ll get a few new hard drives, I’m running out of room on here & seeing as I can leave this shit-hole, gives me something to keep me from going crazy. lol !! Just don’t spend it buying shit from China or on anything Trump owns. Vote & support a Democrat so they don’t figure out how to get the money back from you. Oh, that is right, dumb people don’t vote & that is why idiots like Trump get elected.

Bob, not everyone has the problems you just wrote in your statement. A lot of people are on SSDI because they were disabled due to an accident or hurt at work or sick from cancer or other disease that they did not have any control over. If that’s how you look at the world, maybe you should think about what your accusing others of. I have to ask, you have issues with everyone it seems, what if it were you or a loved one that was dying of cancer or something else? I’m about $770,000.00 in medical debt and medicare does not cover everything. I had the best of the best insurance when i was working three jobs and taking care of my family. Now I have just medicare, but I suppose that your too high and mighty rolling in mud with the pigs online and eating hard drives and trolling blog websites looking for someone less fortunate to annoy and belittle. Now, I ask you, “and how do you feel about that?”

Your a shit show bob!!!! TRUMP 2020!!!

    • Dan D.

You are the biggest idiot and it sounds like you are made at the world. What happen to you did your wife leave your pathetic ass. To me it sounds like you are a drug addict and a perfect democrat. They will do something and blame the republicans. You are a moron if it wasn’t for president Trump hundreds of thousands of more people will of died. Go and vote your stupid dems and watch the next 10 to 15 years when we will be speaking chinese in America.

You really need a fact check here. Trump fired the pandemic team in 2018 didn’t fill the warehouses that he found empty. Would not allow testing from other countries. He called the virus a hoax and he said it was the democrats just trying to impeach him. If he had acted at the beginning instead of going on tv and saying these things people would have listened. He could have shut the country down back in january instead of end of march. we all knew in January that this was a problem. He don’t care about us. Wake up. He talked about us as the unheard ones and that he was going to help. I voted for him. He is more on the almighty dollar and getting reelected then the people dying. And even his not getting paid supposedly. He decides where that check goes so to me he still getting paid. Poor people couldn’t get tested but the rich could and he didn’t care he said thats life thats the way its been. He lied to us. He has done everything he can to throw people off disability and now we have to be reviewed more often no matter the disability. Mine isn’t going to get better or go away just worse. but a pain to have the paperwork all the time.

        • paul p.

Please provide proof he called the pandemic a hoax libtard.

    • your t.

      bob on this ass hole.

What about SSI recipients that are minor children with the parent as the representative payee? I’m my daughters, I have filed taxes but don’t work so don’t get a refund so no DD information on file with irs. They just announced SSI recipients will automatically get it but they are talking about adults. So ar3 SSI recipient children don’t count or are they going to cross reference the child to the parent and pay it.

    • V.V.

Hi Mary, thank you for your question. Please visit the IRS Economic Impact Payments Information Center to answer your questions about eligibility, payment amounts, what to expect, when to expect it and more. Hope this helps!

  4. kylie d.

when will social security retirees that got the 1099, but did not file taxes, get their check? early May like the ssi people???

    wtf

    • V.V.

Hi Kylie, thank you for using our blog to ask your question. Treasury, not Social Security, will make these payments. We do not have information about the schedule for these payments. The IRS will provide additional information at http://www.irs.gov/coronavirus.

  5. Stuart

This was announced today. You will receive the $1200 using the same method you receive your social security. Click the link and read the article.

    https://www.cnbc.com/amp/2020/04/15/ssi-beneficiaries-will-get-coronavirus-stimulus-payments-automatically.html

    • Nicole

Well that clears up a lot of confusion. Thank god.

      • Cissy

        ????

    • Joseph

Great link, man. Yes, this has indeed been updated today. SSI recipients with no dependents will not have to take any steps and will receive their stimulus money automatically, the same way they typically receive their direct deposits. The only thing is that it says we’ll receive these checks by “Early May, at the latest”. Really? 2-3+ more weeks? What a joke.

  6. Gabrielle y.

i am also an ssdi and i didnt get my stimulus pymnt i dont have direct express i have it directly to my bank. i filed taxes in 2018 and 2019 but didnt get any money or had to pay anything bk i was in the negative i lost money so. what am i supposse to do this web site is so confusing.

    • ssdi i.

YEP IM IN THE SAME BOAT. SSDI RECIPIENTS ARE GOING TO BE PAID THE STIMULUS IN MAY AFTER EVERYONE ELSE AND THE SSI RECIPIENTS BECAUSE WE WORKED AND THEN BECAME DISABLED SO NOW WE JUST HAVE TO PULL OURSELVES UP BY OUR BOOTSTRAPS AND BUDGET AS BEST AS WE CAN UNTIL MAY HOPEFULLY. GOD BLESS YOU AND GOD BLESS AMERICA!!

      • Dr.Popzit

Take your meds, Miss ALL CAPS MAKE ME COOL!!!

    • V.V.

Thank you for your question, Gabrielle. Economic impact payments will be made to eligible people who receive Social Security retirement, disability, or survivors benefits. The IRS will use the SSA-1099 information that we provide them to automatically generate $1,200 economic impact payments to eligible Social Security beneficiaries who did not file tax returns in 2018 or 2019. The economic impact payments will be made as a direct deposit or by paper check, just as the Social Security beneficiary would normally receive their benefits. Please visit http://www.irs.gov/coronavirus to learn more.

  7. Devon E.

THEY HAVE JUST ANNOUNCED THAT WE WILL GET IT BY DIRECT EXPRESS CARD NO LATER THAN EARLY MAY – CSNBC ! SO THERE IS HOPE!

    • Nicole

So it will be deposited on our direct express card.

  8. John

My mother is in a nursing home in MA and on Medicaid. Her SS check goes directly to the nursing home. She has not filled out a tax return in many years. She does have a checking account. She does not have a computer or an email address.
    Her $1200 stimulus check…
Will she get a paper check?
Will she get it by direct deposit?
Will the nursing home get the funds?
Will she get the funds at all?

  9. Missty

I am on SSDI and I just went on the get my payment tool and it says my payment is scheduled to be deposited into my bank account April 15 which is today yet I don’t have any pending deposits on my direct express card and I don’t have any other bank account I don’t know what to do or who to call.

    • Heather

Same with me! I don’t have any pending deposits either.

  10. Barbara

My Dad died on March 30th. He received the $1200 in our account today. Do I need to send that back now or does it get done during Tax time? I looked at the Economic Impact Payment Center FAQ but do not see the answer. I asked Social Security but they said they did not know the answer. I would like to know what action I need to take or should I just add it to the total that I plan on dispersing among the family?

    • Jeanette

I have the same problem! I’m leaving a reply hoping someone official will answer you and me at the same time. My mother died last year. IRS is fully aware of it since they listed DECD behind her name on the deposit. I looked up DECD on the IRS website and it means “deceased.” Is this to be considered part of her estate or is it to be returned? The fact that you called IRS and they didn’t know the answer is a bit scary. Myself, I plan to just leave the deposit where it is, untouched until I get an answer. I think this may be something the government hadn’t thought through and they may demand it back.

      • robert

I believe you will find that SSA requires that any money rec’d for the month a person passes is required to be returned.
The Idea that someone atSSAsaid they have no idea is ridiculous. try again.

    • Kimberly B.

Yall need to keep that shit and keep it pushing… shhh!!!
No but for real though, no one is going to have to pay back a stimulus check, i would assume it becomes part of your departed ones estate
