Social Security incorrectly process my claim and sent me a check. I sent the check back May 29. To this day it has still not been cashed. And they will not process my new claim until this check is cashed. Why is this taking so long.

    • Vonda V.

Hi Mona, thanks for using our blog. We sincerely apologize for your inconvenience and we understand your frustration. We recommend that you continue to work with your local field office. Please look for the general inquiry telephone number at the Social Security Office Locator. The number may appear under Show Additional Office Information.

How i get new social security card because local office is closed ?

    • Vonda V.

Hi Getasil, thank you for your question. First, realize you may not need a replacement card. You will rarely need to show it. Knowing your Social Security number is what is important. However, if you must get a replacement card, you may be able to apply online. Check out our Frequently Asked Questions web page for details on how to apply for a replacement Social Security card. If you are unable to apply online and you do not want to mail in your documents, which will be returned, you may need to wait for the offices to reopen. You can also call your local office and see if they will mail you an SSN printout instead of a replacement Social Security card. We are unable to process replacement Social Security card requests by phone at this time. Use our Social Security Office Locator to find your local office address. We hope this helps.

    What is all about?

Any thoughts as to when the SSA in Baltimore will be open again for processing earnings information requests? I understand you are accepting requests and they will be in queue for processing when you reopen. Our office handles terminally ill patients and their earnings information is critical to establishing their work history as many are older and have poor memories. Is there ETA for reopening? Thank you for your time.

    • Vonda V.

Hi Jill, thanks for using our blog. Our offices remain closed to the public for face-to-face service. We are still able to provide critical services via phone, fax and online. If you have a critical situation that we cannot help you with by phone or online, we may be able to schedule an in-office appointment for you. Appointment availability is based on available staff and office operating status. Please call your local office to see if an in-office appointment is necessary and possible. To contact your local office, please look for the local office telephone number at Social Security Office Locator under “Social Security Office Information” for the office you select. The toll-free “Office” number is your local office.

      • Jill

Prior to the pandemic all earnings information requests had to go through Baltimore. Are you saying that our local office will be able to process earnings information requests now while the main office is closed?

Is it true if you are drawing early retirement and become disabled you can not draw disability?

    • Vonda V.

Hi Pat, thanks for using our blog. It depends on how old you are. When a person has reached their full retirement age (Currently 66) and is receiving Social Security retirement, they are no longer eligible for disability benefits. If you are under your full retirement age, you absolutely can apply for disability benefits.

If you have any questions or want to apply, you can call us at 1-800-772-1213 or contact your local Social Security office. Please look for the general inquiry telephone number at the Social Security Office Locator. The number may appear under Show Additional Office Information. Please be aware that our call wait times are longer than normal. We hope this information helps.
