Hi Eve, thank you for using our blog. First, realize you may not need a replacement card. You will rarely need to show it. Knowing your Social Security number is what is important. If you do need a replacement card, visit our Social Security Number and Card page to learn how to apply, what documents are required and where to mail the application and documents. If you do not want to mail in your documents, call your local office and request that we mail you an SSN printout instead of a replacement Social Security card. Unfortunately, we are unable to process replacement Social Security card requests by phone at this time.

    waited for “reset code” letter.
    received.
    went to
    http://www.socialsecurity,gov/myaccount
did “sign on to my account”
    SSA: want text or email?
    me: text.
SSA: wait for up to 2 minutes.
at 4:09 SSA.gov: “we sent the code to your phone..allow 2 minute”
    at 4:14…no code
then I “changed the way I get Security code to email”
that worked. I’m back in bidness. Thanks. Hope this helps others. BTW..your “send txt” to phone apparently has bugs.

got reset code letter. says enter it by going to http://www.socialsecurity.gov/myaccount.
did that. not clear on where to enter reset code. Don’t want to try more than two things so i don’t have to wait several weeks for another letter. SOOOOO, How do I enter this reset code?

    • Vonda V.

Hi John, thanks for using our blog. If you no longer have access to the second factor (cell phone or email address) on your account, and you need to change the second factor, you then can request a reset code online. The system will mail a reset code letter to the address on file. You then enter this reset code online, after signing in with your username and password, to change the second factor associated with your information. If you forgot your password, and the password reset questions didn’t work, we can send a temporary password in some circumstances. Check out our Frequently Asked Questions web page for details on how to retrieve or change your username or password. We hope this helps.

I entered my I.D. when I set up my on line account. It was accepted. I finished the set up and logged out. When I tried to log on again it wouldn’t accept my I.D. I tried 3 more times. No luck. Finally after I said I didn’t remember it it put it in automatically. It was the one I had chosen! Why is this happening? And how can I fix it.

I got my letter with my temporary password and now the system wants a reset code from the letter and I didn’t get a reset code?

    • Vonda V.

Hi Don, thank you for using our blog. When you sign in with your username and password, it will then ask if you received a reset letter. You select “Yes, let’s begin” . The reset code is issued when you need to change the second factor authentication method associated with your information.

If you forgot your password, and the password reset questions didn’t work, we can send a temporary password in some circumstances. Check out our Frequently Asked Questions web page for details on how to retrieve or change your username or password. We hope this helps.
