Why is this site so complex and obscure? I am trying to follow the explicit instructions on your form I received at one of your offices, but the instructions cannot be followed as written. Why have such complexity and user unfriendliness?

I currently mentor a student in our high school. She knows her social security number, but does not have a paper copy of it.
She has asked her parents to help her get a paper copy, but they haven’t helped her yet.
She will turn 18 in December. At that point, can she do this process herself? She thinks since we live in Nebraska and the age of ‘adult’ is 19 here that she cannot do it herself until she turns 19.
Can you clarify this for us?
Thank you very much!
L.A.
Hi Joanne. Remember that knowing your number is what is important. Your student will rarely need to show your card. She may be able to request a replacement electronically. For information on how to obtain a replacement Social Security card go here. We hope this helps.
