My adult severely disabled daughter receives Childhood Disability Benefit though her father who has retired. When opening a “My Social Security Account” does she enter his social security number or hers? It is his that is listed on the letter from the social security award letter and correspondence.

How do I set up an on line account when I don’t have a middle name? It won’t let me get past the first page w/out one and I don’t have one and neither does my soc card. Help!!

  3. Ralph

I want to set up my social security page but it asks for a middle initial and I don’t have one. What do I put there? Also is there a phone number for someone outside of the US to be able to call with questions?

    • A.C.

Hi, Ralph. Unfortunately, at present, our electronic authentication process requires that you have a U.S. mailing address to set up an online account. However, if you need help, assistance, or information about your account or benefits, you can contact your nearest Federal Benefits Unit. We hope this helps.

How do I change my banking account numbers with Social Security?

    • A.C.

Hi, Kay. If you are receiving Social Security retirement or disability, you can create a personal my Social Security account to change your banking information online. If you are receiving Supplemental Security Income, you should contact your local office immediately. Thanks!

My social security user name and password did not work so now I’m locked out for 24 hours. However if it didn’t work the first three times, then I don’t expect it to work within 24 hours. What’s up… Yes, I used my correct user name and password setup a few years ago. My wife’s account would not allow her to sign in either.

    • V.V.

Hi James: Sorry to hear about the difficulties you and your wife are experiencing in accessing your my Social Security account. Visit our Frequently Asked Questions web page for information on how to retrieve or change your password.

If you continue to encounter problems, call us at 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778), Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. At the voice prompt, say “helpdesk”.

How do I give you email address. I can’t sign in.

  7. Dolores K.

I tried to set up an account for my husband for his social security and entered all the information but when I submitted it told me the information was wrong but did not specify what part of the information was wrong. After trying several times it suspended me and said I would have to try again in 24 hours . Did this yesterday and today

    • A.C.

Hi, Dolores. Thanks for your comment. Unfortunately, you can only create a my Social Security account using your own personal information and for your own exclusive use. You cannot create or use an account on behalf of another person, even if you have that person’s written permission. For security reasons, and for your husband’s protection, it may be best for your husband to go into his local office for assistance. A representative in the office will verify his’s identity and issue him an activation code. He can use the activation code to complete the registration process for his personal my Social Security account. We hope this helps.

I forgot my online user name.
Is there a place I can go to reset it?

    • A.C.

Hi, Virginia. Thanks for your question. To retrieve or change your account username, please visit our Frequently Asked Questions for instructions. We hope this helps.
