I am having trouble figuring out how to sign up for a mysecurity account for my son. I am his representative and it says I cannot set up an account for him, but he is only 4 years old. I need to send in my paystubs for the month and I am not sure how to do so.

    • V.V.

Hi Beverly, thank you for your question. Your son is not eligible for a my Social Security account because you must be 18 years old or older. However, representative payees, and the spouse, parent(s), or sponsor of someone receiving SSI may use my Social Security to report wages online. Using your own my Social Security account, you can report your wages for your son that receives Supplemental Security Income benefits.

I had a hard time attempting to set up an online my social security account. It would not accept my information and kept asking me to correct my information but nothing was identified as incorrect and I verified all of my information several times and after a few attempts I was locked our of further attempts for 24 hours. It was very frustrating but not unexpected based on my past experiences. I still have no idea why my information was rejected and what I could do differently. I will expect that I will give up any further attempts to avoid the frustration that comes with endless failure. I tried to call for help but was told I would wait one and a half hours. So much for a what sounded like a great idea but ends in disappointment
