How can I create an account when I am Canadian, now live back in Canada and have only a Canadian address?

    • V.V.

Thank you for your question, Jocelyn. Unfortunately, at this time, you must have a U.S. mailing address to create or to access your online account. The “my Social Security” authentication system requires address verification as one of the essential criteria for issuing an account. People with APO/FPO/DPO addresses can create an account overseas, but our system does not support registration and account creation for users with a foreign address yet.

I have not logged into my account in a few years. Tried last month and got locked out. Tried today and “invalid” I know I am using the correct user name and password because they are written down. Help!!

    • V.V.

Hi Rebecca: See our Frequently Asked Questions web page for information on how to retrieve or change your password. If you encounter a problem, you may call us at 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778), Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. At the voice prompt, say “helpdesk”.

    1. Was almost finished setting up “my social security” account and hit a wrong key. All disappeared. Couldn’t return to my place and now have to begin all over. Why? Please provide a “return to your place” option.
    2. Never received Medicare card in mail. Lost? Stolen?
Medicare could not give me my Medicare claim # so I could use for a doctor visit while waiting on card to arrive. Medicare office told me I would have to get it from Social Security. I waited on hold OVER 3 HOURS
only to be told they could not give it to me either. How stupid is this? All that time wasted. No excuses. STOOPID. Asinine. Im angry at my tax payer supported site which has no regard for this tax payer’s time.

  4. Frank L.

This is a nightmare!! I don’t know my password or the answers to the questions, so the reset code I was sent in the mail is useless. I keep getting locked out of my account even if I request help getting my password. Your system is not user friendly at all. So what do you suggest I do since I can’t get past your ridiculous security measures????

    • V.V.

Hi Frank. Sorry to hear you are having difficulties with your my Social Security account. We offer various ways for you to reset your password. See our Frequently Asked Questions web page for more details.

  6. Bonnie S.

all I want to do is have my check sent to another bank.

    • V.V.

Hi Bonnie. Thanks for the question. If you’re receiving Social Security benefits (retirement, survivors, or disability), you can start or update your direct deposit information by using your personal my Social Security account.

If receiving Supplemental Security Income (SSI) or unable to conduct business online, you can start or update your direct deposit by contacting the bank, credit union, or savings and loan association or by calling Social Security at 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778).

See our Frequently Asked Questions web page for more information.

Your filing for an account does not allow US citizens who live in Mexico to apply., The form does not allow people outside the US to apply.
