baseball and bat You feel a special kind of excitement when your team is playing in the World Series and you watch your star hitter step to the plate at the bottom of the ninth inning, with two outs and the bases loaded.

You’ll feel another kind of excitement, equally special, when you’re poised to retire. You can join the more than seven million people who’ve retired online with Social Security at www.socialsecurity.gov. That number is equivalent to 165 stadiums full of people who have rounded the bases into retirement.

Our public services announcement videos will tell you that when you retire online, in as little as 15 minutes, you can pop the champagne and celebrate a well-deserved triumph. In most cases, after you submit your application electronically, you’re done. There are no forms to sign and usually no documentation required. Social Security will process your application and contact you if any further information is necessary.

Of course, having the right players lined up makes for a winning formula. With the correct earnings on your Social Security Statement on first base, your estimated benefits from our Retirement Estimator on second, and your computer opened to www.socialsecurity.gov on third, you’ll have all your bases covered.

This October, step up and become your own true hero by hitting that grand slam homerun – from the comfort of your home.

I’m still waiting for a response to the last few emails it’s been 3 or 4 months since I sent the first one and I have never seen a response to a single one. Oh by the way I’m still not receiving any benefits either so I don’t really have any questions about the way this country is a joke or how a disabled veteran can lose his benefits and we can bring Serian terrorist here and there have 5 years before the free ride makes a stop. Thank you for the most Malingering effort to keep me from living below poverty level.

buddy this is a blog like any other blog it is not an open letter to SSA or congress or any other entity in government. this is everyone commenting, just people like you and me, about how they feel about the cola. no one is going to reply to you in particular.

  2. Yolanda M.

You are wrong to withhold the COLA for 2016. Everything
rose in cost, should not be determined only by gasoline. I don’t drive, groceries, medicine, property taxes have raised cost. We need COLA for 2016

    • A.J.T.

It’s not determined by only gasoline, not even remotely close. The person that implied that the cost of gasoline is why inflation has averaged out to 0.0% doesn’t know what she’s talking about.

This is a decent general explanation:

Here’s another breakdown. The people complaining here are going to complain regardless (and I’m not saying they don’t have a point, life isn’t easy for most people). If you couldn’t afford something before, then why do you think you’re magically going to be able to afford something if your monthly checks are increased by 2%, for example.
To put it another way, if your social security check is $1,000, you would have $20 more per month. Be honest with yourself, $20 more to spend per month would make absolutely no difference in how you live your life.

We need it, but we didn’t get it, so tighten your belt.

We need to get congress to live like we do instead of the way they live, and also the government whoever that may be the big wigs who have so much money all they can do is go on vacation and go on the news and announce it so all of the poor in America can see that they have lots of money. They don’t take care of their own kids but they give us laws where they stick their nose in and change the laws like not spanking kids and all the other stupid laws they changed. You see what happened when they passed the laws of not spanking your kids . the world got worse cause the kids now could care less about anything. They don’t care cause the government doesn’t care and neither does the president. I am so disgusted with the government here and all their ways they think is right . We do need someone like trump who could do a better job. He can’t do any worse than all the rest of them

I’m also retired. I live in South Carolina. I put in for food stamps. I get 16 dollars a month! ! I need to have eye surgery and my SSI will not be anywhere near enough to help pay for what is left over! If the person that made this site has any suggestions. Why don’t they help us? ??????

    • Ray F.

Hi Felix, If you are receiving retirement benefits and are age 65 or older, you may be covered by Medicare. If you also receive benefits under the Supplemental Security Income or SSI, you should contact your local Medicaid or Medical Assistance office for help.

      • Felix M.

Hey. I contacted medicaid. They want me to give them my house and anything else that I have. NO WAY. Why do they want to take everything from me? ??

        • Expert

Because you want to take as much as you can from us.

  5. Mr J.

I am currently receiving disabilty payment from social security in the amount of $ 1700 .00 a Monthly how will this amount change if I retire now at the age of 63 years old.

    • Ray F.

Thanks for your question Mr. Hagler. Remember that your disability payments are established at the highest rate possible, and that while you may be eligible to switch from disability to retirement benefits at age 63 your benefits will be reduced. This is because we apply reduction factors to retirement benefits if you start receiving them prior to your full retirement age. When you reach full retirement age, we will automatically convert your disability benefits to retirement benefits, but the amount remains the same.
If you have more questions, please call our toll free number at 1-800-772-1213, Monday through Friday between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. and talk with one of our representatives

This site is like a clmoarsos, except I don’t hate it. lol

    • Expert

You should be retired, if you are getting social security disability. You are getting what you would have gotten at age 65 and over, and will only get an increase when we all get a COLA raise.

  6. Patricia S.

I live on Disability and nothing else. I have worked all my life until I couldn’t any more and my rent is going up food is going up and my check isn’t because gas isn’t? what about all the times gas did go up my check didn’t go up then that much. What is wrong with you people? I buy food once a mouth if I can after I pay my bills if I have money left. I have to make sure it last all month. I don’t go out to eat like a lot of my friends.

  7. D. E.

  10. JOSE A.

Why our benefits are different from the people live on the mayland. We paid the same amount for medicare, medicaid and social security, also the things are most expensive that the mayland.

Now they not hane increase in the Social Security paid, because the cost of live inthe state don’t raise, but im here is raise a lot every day.Can you explain to me the equatation for that decition.

    José

    • Patti

I would not be worrying about this year 2015. Next the disability program is in shambles and Congress needs to get their act together to fix the shortfall that is coming!!!

Fellow disability persons, if Congress does not act, our disability checks will be cut by 80%. That is a lot of money to all of us. I would write or call your representative and tell them to act. Also contact the Ways and Means Committee and express your concerns.

The reason we did not get a raise was the cost of fuel went way down. Gas right now is cheap by the gallon. Right now, there is no inflation. The Feds have to raise rates. We only get a cola is when there is inflation.

      • Not s.

The price of food and rent have gone sky high. I feel we definately needed one badley.
