Get Your Social Security Benefit Statement (SSA-1099)

Tax season is approaching, and Social Security has made replacing your annual Benefit Statement even easier. The Benefit Statement is also known as the SSA-1099 or the SSA-1042S. Now you can get a copy of your 1099 anytime and anywhere you want using our online services.
A Social Security 1099 is a tax form Social Security mails each year in January to people who receive Social Security benefits. It shows the total amount of benefits you received from Social Security in the previous year so you know how much Social Security income to report to the IRS on your tax return.
If you live in the United States and you need a replacement form SSA-1099 or SSA-1042S, simply go online and request an instant, printable replacement form through your personal my Social Security account.
A replacement SSA-1099 or SSA-1042S is available for the previous tax year after February 1.
If you already have a my Social Security account, you can log in to your online account to view and print your SSA-1099 or SSA-1042S. If you don’t have access to a printer, you can save the document on your computer or laptop or even email it. If you don’t have a my Social Security account, creating one is very easy to do and usually takes less than 10 minutes.
If you receive benefits or have Medicare, your my Social Security account is also the best way to:
- Get your benefit verification letter;
- Check your benefit and payment information;
- Change your address and phone number;
- Change your direct deposit information;
- Request a replacement Medicare card; or
- Report your wages if you work and receive Social Security disability insurance or Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits.
If you’re a noncitizen who lives outside of the United States and you received or repaid Social Security benefits last year, we will send you form SSA-1042S in the mail. The forms SSA-1099 and SSA-1042S are not available for people who receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI).

This is a formal complaint about my local SSA office — 5508 HWY 290 West, Austin, Texas. As a government employee myself for 23 years, I found their performance is unacceptable.
The reasons are as following:
1. I applied Social Security benefit back in June of this year. However the office mistakenly turned it into an SS card application (I have no need for a new card, my old card is in a perfect shape).
2. When I found I did not receive the SS check, I called and also went to the office to ask. I was told there’s no my application. A gentleman at the office helped me filled out the application. However I did not bring my bank account information. He provided me a letter, wrote his name on it, and said he would call me between 4:00-5:00 pm that afternoon to get my bank account number. I waited but he did not call.
3. The next day I called the 800 number, hoping to tell my account number over the phone. But the person asked me to wait for the office’s call, said it could take 30 days if he passes the information.
4. The next day still no call. I thought may just do a courtesy, to go the office myself. But did not expect the office closed.
5. The next day I went to the office again. It was a full house. I tried to explain to the guard that I just need to give my bank account. However he would not allow me to finish even one sentence, just pointed the machine, asked me to get a number. To my experience, that day I would have to wait for an entire afternoon to get to talk to an officer. The guard was really rude.
So, so far I still have not received my SS benefits, and the office has not called me yet. — I did call the 800 number again, asked to make a complaint. The lady gave me a 855 number, but no one answered that phone. Also the lady took my back account information.
Another strange thing: first time I went to that office, there’s no chair outside the window. The lady inside would not allow me to take a chair from next window. It would not be a big deal, except she left the desk to print a document, and stared chatting with someone in the back. so I had to stand there waiting for quite a long time…

Hi, Shuai. If you applied for a Social Security card for the first time, it may take longer than 30 days. On your receipt there should be a local phone number for you to call and speak to someone about the status of your Social Security card or you may have to return to the Social Security office where you filed your application. When you go, take the documents you originally presented as evidence. We hope this helps.

Sorry about posting your employee’s name. I posted a post for my mom BEFORE reading the Comment Policy. Again, sincerely sorry for the mistake and any inconvenience this may have caused.

I was seen by the most rude person I have ever had to deal with in a Social Security Office. Her name is Baran-Glazer. I had to repeatedly ask her to give me the “Request A Waver Of Overpayment Recovery” forms. Every time she replied how this office (2416 S. Pulaski Rd. Social Security Office) will deny the request and it’s not going to do me any good because the forms will be returned to this office and they are going to deny the request.
Even when I explained to her that I didn’t know anything about the overpayment, and I didn’t even know my mother was receiving anything for me, and that I ran away from home and got married at 17, and that my mother has been deceased for almost 19 years, These were Ms. Baran-Glazer’s responses: ..
”Well, this is your problem now.”
“You were the child so your now responsible pay back this money.”
“ It does matter, Social security wants the money.”
“ Your mother should have reported it.”
“You think you’re going to put in another waiver request?”
“It’s going to come back to us and we’re going to deny it.”
Ms. Baran-Glazer’s responses were expressed in an insensitive and harsh tone. Not much else was said. I just sat there while Ms. Baran-Glazer typed and typed and typed and typed and typed. I sat at the window for a while and through all that typing Ms. Brana-Glazer gave me one letter that stated I have to complete the “Request A Waver Of Overpayment Recovery” before October 15, 2019. (and the forms I requested, finally). The only other question I continued to asked was “Can I please get the forms needed to report 18 year olds still attending school. Ms. Baran-Glazer’s responses were …
“You’re get a notice with the form in the mail.”
“It will be sent to you in the mail a few months before his 18th birthday.”
”You don’t need it now. We will request it.”
With each responds I simply stated again “Can I get it anyway, since I was already in the office.
Maybe Ms. Baran-Glazer was having a bad day or something. Regardless, It would be nice to visit this social security office without being assertively attack verbally just for asking for forms. The Social Security Office can be an intimidating place because of all of the paperwork, forms and individual’s lack of knowledge. It takes a great deal for me to visit any office due to my anxiety disorder, and a number of other health problems . So in the future, maybe a little professional courteous could ease some of the pain, dizziness, anxiety and the many other system people have to deal with just to visit your office in person.
