If you receive a Benefit Verification letter, sometimes called a “budget letter,” a “benefits letter,” a “proof of income letter,” or a “proof of award letter,” we have good news for you! A new standardized Benefit Verification letter is now available when you need proof of Social Security benefits, Supplemental Security Income, or Medicare.

In addition to name, date of birth, and the benefits received, the new Benefit Verification letter includes other identifiers to prevent misuse and fraud. This is an added benefit to you as proof of income for loans, housing assistance, mortgage, and other verification purposes.

The same standardized letter is also available if you need proof that you do not receive benefits, or proof that benefits are pending. If you are an individual representative payee, you can use the my Social Security Representative Payee portal to access the same standardized Benefit Verification letter online for your beneficiaries.

This new standardized Benefit Verification letter is another example of our commitment to improve our service to you.

No matter how you request your letter, whether calling our National 800 Number, your local office, the Interactive Voice Response system, or online with your personal my Social Security account, the Benefit Verification letter now contains a seamless look.

I wish I could get all my disability. That 148.00 is hurting me. N they took my ex help away. With my raise i still only bet a little over 780.00 Mt. Can only get about 15 .00 in snap
    They took my Medicaid.

    • Vonda

Hi Rebecca. You may want to apply for Extra Help with Medicare prescription drug plan costs again. The Extra Help is estimated to be worth about $5,000 per year. To qualify for the Extra Help, a person must be receiving Medicare, have limited resources and income, and reside in one of the 50 States or the District of Columbia. In addition to the Extra Help, you may be able to get help from your State with other Medicare costs under the Medicare Savings Programs. By completing the Extra Help application, you will start your application process for a Medicare Savings Program. We will send information to your State who will contact you to help you apply for a Medicare Savings Program unless you tell us not to when you complete the application.

If you need information about Medicare Savings Programs, Medicare Prescription Drug plans or how to enroll in a plan, call 1-800-MEDICARE (TTY 1-877-486-2048) or visit http://www.medicare.gov. You also can request information about how to contact your State Health Insurance Counseling and Assistance Program (SHIP). The SHIP offers help with your Medicare questions. We hope this helps.

How do I get my wife on my ssi disability and she recieved a check as well she is unable to work due to a surgery that’s gonna take over a yr before dr will even consider releasing her in any way but she will always have to be under the surgeon’s care and possible surgery again in the near future .thank you scott

    • Vonda

Hi Scott, thanks for using our blog to ask your questions. We pay disability benefits through two programs: the Social Security Disability Insurance program (SSDI) and the Supplemental Security Income (SSI) program. To qualify for SSDI benefits, your wife must have worked long enough and recently enough in jobs covered by Social Security (usually within the last 10 years). The (SSI) program is a needs based program that gives cash assistance to disabled individuals with limited income and resources. We pay disability benefits to people who are unable to work because of a medical condition that is expected to last one year or more or to end in death. If your wife thinks she may be eligible to receive disability benefits and would like to apply, she can use our online application.

If your wife is at least 62 years of age and you are receiving Social Security retirement or disability benefits, she may be eligible for spouse’s benefits on your record if her own Social Security disability benefit is less than half of your full retirement or disability benefit. We hope this helps!

You need to find your local SSA office, or call the main # to SSA & ask them for a replacement or whatever the case might be. It really is not that difficult.
