Get a Replacement Social Security Tax Form Online With Ease
Reading Time: 1 MinuteLast Updated: November 3, 2023
It’s that time of year again. Preparing for tax season can seem overwhelming. Some forms and paperwork might be difficult to track down. If you misplaced your Benefits Statement or haven’t received it by the end of January, we’ve made it easy to go online to get a replacement with a personal my Social Security account.
An SSA-1099, also called a Benefit Statement, is a tax form Social Security mails each year in January to the more than 60 million people who receive Social Security benefits. It shows the total amount of benefits received from Social Security in the previous year so people know how much Social Security income to report to the IRS on their tax return.
For noncitizens who live outside of the United States and received or repaid Social Security benefits last year, we’ll send form SSA-1042S instead. The forms SSA-1099 and SSA-1042S are not available for people who receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI).
If you currently live in the United States and need a replacement form SSA-1099 or SSA-1042S, we have a way for you to get a replacement quickly and easily. Go online and get a replacement form with a personal my Social Security account.
Every worker in the United States should create a personal my Social Security account. The secure and personalized features of my Social Security are valuable tools to help Americans plan for retirement.

I have had to move my elderly parents & they did not receiving their 1099 statements. I tried to set up accounts for them online, but it says that only the person receiving benefits can sign up.
I am their POA & at a loss as to how to get the statements so I can do their taxes for them.
Can you help me?
Thank you
A.C.
Thanks for your question, Candice. Because of privacy and security concerns, Social Security cannot speak to you about your parents’ benefits. If your parents are not capable of managing and directing their Social Security benefits, someone should consider applying to be their representative payee. Even though you are power of attorney, you, or someone else, would still need to apply to serve as their payee. To learn more about becoming a representative payee, you can read our publication, A Guide for Representative Payees, and visit our web page, When People Need Help Managing Their Money. You can also call us at 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778) to request an appointment. We hope this information helps.

I would like to add tax deduction to my payment
A.C.
Hi, Michael. In order to have taxes withheld from your Social Security benefit, you must start by printing, completing and submitting an IRS Voluntary Withholding Request Form (Form W-4V). On this form, you can choose to have 7, 10, 12, or 22 percent of your monthly benefit withheld. The Form W-4V (to withhold federal taxes from your Social Security benefits) can be returned to your local Social Security office by mail or in person. See our Benefits Planner: Withholding Income Tax From Your Social Security Benefits web page for more information. We hope this helps.
