I worked for over 50 years and sometimes at three jobs a week. I babysat kids at my home so I could be at home with my children too. And after my husband came home I went to work at a construction company doing their paychecks for their employees. And didn’t get home until about 10pm at night. On Fridays an oil broker brought over the land descriptions of the properties that were signed up for oil rigs. I typed the legal paperwork all weekend even all night long some weeks and he would pick up the finished paperwork on Monday before he went to work. I worked at many places over the years and always matched the percentage the company would pay into Social Security. At every job I held I was promoted to the high level positions available. And after all of that work I get $1,447 per month as a Social Security check. There is something wrong with the system that thinks anyone can live on that income. And I just heard we get a 2.8% increase for next year. I won’t see one dime of that increase because we have already been told that our utilities are increasing again.
PLEASE FIX THIS SYSTEM.

My husband and I have worked hard all our lives in the blue collar trade and never asked for anything from our government, state and local departments prior to his life changing injury, navigating the system that we paid into all our lives is a disappointment it should not take a year and a half to get a decision or to get benefits we paid into with 60 to 80 hour work weeks, I’ve been the sole caregiver now for my husband who is now physically and permanently disabled without any help or guidance on where to start on these government programs, we are looking for a handout it’s disheartening to know our government used our money to care for and help illegal aliens navigate and prosper with our tax dollars as soon as they cross that border when we are told as American citizens we have to wait over 365+ days for an answer meanwhile we still have a mortgage, insurance and prescriptions, utilities and food and left to deplete and go into bankruptcy waiting for our government to acknowledge the American citizens that built this country and paid into the government in every aspect of our life, something needs to change about our government and their inability to take their jobs seriously in helping or aiding in guidance of how to navigate such a disaster our politicians have made for the citizens of our country.

Dear Commissioner Bisignano, I have a suggestion regarding how to protect our SS number. Why not develope a way that we can freeze our SS number the same way that we freeze the three credit bureau? When our number is in jeopardy or just as a general safety precaution, we are able to freeze it so that no unauthorized person can use it. Then when we did it, we can unfreeze.

Completely disgree with your comment about there is alot of time to fix SS. Congress is irresponsible and are more worried about political agendas rather fixing SS. SS is bankrupt because Americans are living longer than expected when the tax was established. Some form of tax increase should be implemented in a small way to mitigate some of the underfunding. OUR CHILDREN WILL HAVE NOTHING except a pile we leave them!!
