customer-service

Social Security has been in the customer service business for more than 81 years, and with Customer Service Week, October 3-7, at hand, it is an exciting time to share the importance of this long-standing tradition.

“My experience with SSA has always been positive.”–Edward M.

This week focuses on commitment to excellence in service. Many of you rely on us for our programs and services. While much of the assistance we give is during the most critical times in your life, it is our belief that with every interaction with us you deserve professional, courteous, and compassionate service.

Times have progressed from 81 years ago, when most customer-to-employee interactions were in person. Today, part of your changing needs is the convenience of quick and secure online service options to conduct your Social Security business. Whether you are home or on the go, you can visit www.socialsecurity.gov to use our many online services.  And we are committed to customer choice, so you can always come see us in the office or call us on our 800 number.

I am my son’s Payee on his SSI Disability, if he moves out of state what must we do ?

    • R.F.

Hello Betty, you must report any new changes, such as your son’s relocation to another state and his new address to the at the local Social Security office in the “new” area.
For food stamps or other state assistance, we suggest that you contact their local social services office for more information. You can get information about services in the “new” area by visiting the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services web page.
We hope this information helps. Good luck!

I would just like to say social security is full of a bunch of BS I have been signed up now for 9 years I cannot work they have said over and over again that I’m disabled I’ve even had the appeals court say that they find they did the judge didn’t find all my medical records in time but yet I still can’t get on Social Security I’m homeless now I have nothing I’ve lost everything I own waiting on Social Security because when I tried to work they denied me because I was trying because I had kids but they don’t want to give nobody no income so I don’t understand the government at all they need to work on the new way of doing customer service and doing things I talk to one person next thing you know I’m talking to 10 others to do not know nothing about what is going on with my case week n in Augusta week in Atlanta they don’t even know where I’m. when I signed up my oldest was 10 my oldest is 19 now that is sad that America is that slow. There’s a whole lot they can fix a whole lot. mine was from a car accident wasn’t even from any kind of health problem it was a car accident I could not have prevented they look at me and they see somebody who is Young and he does not look like they’re hurt but in the inside I’m falling apart and they shouldn’t be judging somebody based on how they look. I have been hospitalized more then once for over 3 days cause of my migraines. My blood pressure drops so low they will not let me log me. I can’t even get Medicaid so I can see my neurologist so I can get my Botox shots for my migraines I was on Topamax I switch to the shots of the botox helps a lot but now I can’t even get those now I have to lay around and just hurts because I cannot go see no doctors because I cannot get Medicaid again because of the government and they’re messed up ways

I need to replace my drivers license, and the customer service person needed my SS card, she was looking at it and, my last name is misspelled and I my self have not noticed it for all these years.
I had to get a replacement be cause I laminated it over 30 years ago, I did get a replacement, and my Last name is incorrect, it was like this on my first card and I never noticed it. Can I correct this on line, or go to the SS office.?

My ex husband died suddenly last night and my 22 yr old son & I don’t have enough money to bury him. Is there any assistance the SSA can offer us for his funeral expenses?

    • R.F.

We are sorry to hear of your loss, Jeanne. Unfortunately, the Lump Sum Death Payment is only payable to eligible family members. Generally, the widow and minor children of the deceased. For more information on this, please read “How Social Security Can Help You When a Family Member Dies“. Thanks.
