All local Social Security offices will be closed to the public for in-person service starting Tuesday, March 17, 2020. This decision protects the population we serve—older Americans and people with underlying medical conditions—and our employees during the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. However, we are still able to provide critical services.

Please read our press release to learn more, including how to get help from the Social Security Administration by phone and online. You can also visit our website to learn more and stay up to date.

I’m on disability and working. C 19 I was layer off
    Getting unemployment
    Plus the 600
What will that do to my disability check

    • V.V.

Hi, Laura, thank you for your question. Unemployment benefits do not affect or reduce Social Security retirement and disability benefits. State unemployment compensation payments are not wages because they are paid due to unemployment rather than employment. However, income from Social Security may reduce your unemployment compensation. Contact your state unemployment office for information on how your state applies the reduction.

If you’re receiving Supplemental Security Income (SSI), unemployment insurance benefits are considered unearned income. If you, your spouse, or a child living in your household have any income other than your Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payment, including unemployment insurance benefits, you must tell us.

To learn more about SSI and how income affects your payment, read What You Need to Know When You Get Supplemental Security Income (SSI).

Im on SS and haven’t got my stimulus check yet

Florida, like the rest of the U.S., are currently at various stages of reopening. I called the local Jacksonville, FL, office and they could not tell me when the office would open after being disconeected 3 times.Florida is in Phase II now with many businesses opening…why not SS too?

My wife is a permanent residence and needs to obtain a social securing number so we can file our Income taxes and claim her CARES Economic Impact patment. This can only be done in the office.

The agent on the phone , when I finally was able to speak to someone, was aloof and uncaring. She said she does not know when the office would open…period.

Please advise on the opening. Thanks.

This decision protects the population we serve—older Americans and people with underlying medical conditions—and our employees during the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. When will my stimulus money be deposited in Direct Express card

  6. Ruthann B.

    Please explain:
On the SSA website, the chart shows, that if you are on SSDI, are a non filer, automatic deposit, no dependents, then you need to do nothing , that your stimulus money will be automatically deposited by April 29th 2020. The SSA website also reports most all on SSDI have received their EIP, this information simply is not accurate. I am one who hasn’t, along with many many others. I check the IRS website daily and receive the same information, “Unable to Determine status ” at this time. This is the message I have received since the start of all this. Why does SSA not correct this in accurate information about most SSDI have received their EIP. What’s worse…there is no one that can be contacted directly to ask for help. And the IRS 800 number is just a run around. When exactly will ALL SSDI recipients receive their stimulus money?

    • KrisG

Yes, there are many on SSDI who have not received their EIP. April 29 is long gone. But it is impossible to get any answers from IRS or SSA. My partner is in the same boat. Everyday it’s “Unable to Determine Status.” Why is this question so difficult for someone to answer?

I can’t seem to get a clear precise answer if I should show up in person for the disability hearing scheduled June 15, 2020 at 9am with Judge Gunn. Please advise.

    • V.V.

Hi Brenda, thanks for using our blog. At this time, Administrative Law Judges (ALJs) are only able to conduct hearings by telephone until we resume our standard operations. Our hearing office staff will contact you or your representative in advance of your scheduled hearing to confirm your availability for a telephone hearing and ensure we have your accurate contact information. For additional details related to Hearings while the offices are closed, check out our Social Security and Coronavirus web page. We hope this helps.
