All local Social Security offices will be closed to the public for in-person service starting Tuesday, March 17, 2020. This decision protects the population we serve—older Americans and people with underlying medical conditions—and our employees during the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. However, we are still able to provide critical services.

Please read our press release to learn more, including how to get help from the Social Security Administration by phone and online. You can also visit our website to learn more and stay up to date.

  1. So S.

What’s this BS about a “simple tax return”? Is this IRS’s way of just screwing over SS recipients anyway?

  2. Temporarily u.

Hi, I’m on SSDI and I work Per Diem but was Laid Off from a Hospital until the cases spike. I filed for unemployment. My question is: How do I let my local SS office know about my work changes since it is required that I do so. I can’t get through on the phone and I can’t find anything on the website regarding this type of situation. I am expecting to be called back to work soon. I usually have to send in my paycheck stubs monthly to them but I’m still required to let them know of any changes in my work status. What am I supposed to do?

    • V.V.

Hi there. Please call you local Social Security office for payment-related issues. Look for the general inquiry telephone number at the Social Security Office Locator. The number may appear under Show Additional Office Information. We hope this helps.

      • Sandy

You cannot contact the Social Security Dept., or any other Dept., (in NJ) for that fact. They stopped all calls. You cannot get an answer to your questions from the IRS, S.S. Dept., Governor’s Office, Dept. Of Treasury, or the President. My question remains for SSDI VACATED CS Orders, ARREARS ONLY, UP-TO-DATE payers, who have an Offset that is going to Welfare, then to the Treasury Dept. NOT the CHILD or CHILDREN…are we still EXEMPT from this EIP Stimulus payment????????

  3. Tricia

Is anyone 100% sure that people on SSI do not need to do anything to get the stimulus? Because I keep hearing different stories. that yes they need to file a tax return and no they don’t so does anybody really know? After all I never filed taxes since I’m only on SSI. And I don’t want to miss out on the $1,200

    • V.V.

Hi Tricia. Thank you for using our blog. The Department of the Treasury will soon provide information about economic impact payments under the recently enacted law, the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act, or CARES Act.

Treasury, not Social Security, will be making direct payments to eligible people. Please do not contact Social Security about these payments as the agency does not have information to share. Instead, for the latest information, please visit http://www.irs.gov/coronavirus. We hope this helps.

I just want to know, HOW will I receive it. I get my SSDI through Direct Express debit card. It is not an account where I can make deposits. It only receives my SSDI and any returns/refunds. I don’t have to file fed or state tax and don’t have a regular bank account. That is the only info missing. If I am to receive a paper check then, that’s fine. I am grateful for the opportunity to receive any extra aid! Thanks!

    • ssdi i.

WHATEVER YOU USE TO RECEIVE YOUR BENEFITS WILL BE USED TO RECEIVE YOUR STIMULUS CHECK. THE TREASURY DEPARTMENT GOING TO CONTACT SSA TO GET ALL OF OUR INFO SO WHATEVER INFO SSA USES TO PAY YOU ON YOUR CARD THE TREASURY WILL USE TO DEPOSITE YOUR PAPER FUNDS. ALLEGEDLY WE SHOULD ALL BE TOUCHING THAT MONEY IN THREE WEEKS VIA DIRECT DEPOSITE. DONT WORRY THIS IS THE GREATEST NATION ON EARTH AND BESIDES SLAVERY AND WIPING OUT THE NATIVES GOD LOVES THIS NATION. GOD BLESS AMERICA WE ARE UNITED!

NOPE YOU DONT HAVE TO FILE TAXES TO GET THE STIMULUS IF YOU ARE ON SSDI. AARP SPECIFICALLY FOUGHT FOR THAT BECAUSE MOST PPL ON SSDI DONT FILE TAXES AND WOULD BE LEFT OUT THE LOOP FOR STIMULUS MONEY THAT IS RIGHTFULLLY THEIRS IF THEY JUST DIDNT KNOW THEY WERE REQUIRED TO. THE IRS IS GOING TO USE YOUR SSA INFORMATION TO SEND THE MONEY SS HAS ALL YOUR EARNINGS ON FILE SO ITS PRETTY SIMPLE FOR THE IRS TO ACQUIRE. EVERYONE CLAIMING THE GOVERNMENT WOULD PURPOSELY TRY TO SCREW US BY MAKING US FILE JUST SO MOST WONT AND THEY CAN KEEP THE MONEY ARE BEING MYOPIC ABOUT THE WHOLE POINT OF THE DAMN STIMULUS IN THE FIRST PLACE. THEY NEED US TO GET THE MONEY GUYS. THEY WILL PROBABLY PAY PEOOPLE ON SSDI LAST BECAUSE THEY WILL LOOK AT TAX RETURNS FIRST AND THEN GO TO SSA FOR THOSE OF US GETTING SS BUT WE WILL GET IT. JUST PROBABLY IN JUNE – SEPTEMBER.

Turn off caps locks insufferable boomer faggot

      • Digitalfeat

Donald Trump is a loser, you fake fucking socialism hypocrite! Lol

        • Teflon D.

Show your president some respect. A stimulus Payment is not socialism idiot, its a payment made to save a dying economy.
This is your fault, the bias media’s fault, and WHO’s who said it wasnt a big deal.

America first, and this virus that you lefty idiots ignored in January could have been shut down or less of a problem if you idiots did not sperg out when Trump to to act on it..

When Trump tried to put a hold on people entering or re-entering from China after the outbreak, you stooges called him racist, now you are saying he didn’t do enough to prevent when you flailed your arms when he tried to do something, the WHO lied, China Lied and you blame Trump.

You are getting 4 more years whether you like it or not you weak coward. I look forward to hearing you cry more for 4 more you male feminist cuckold.

  7. Alex

So will ppl who are on ssi for being SMI diagnosis will they qualify for the stimulus package.?

    • Not S.

You get $1,200 as long as you are not

      1.an illegal immigrant.
      2. made over 75k filing as single
      3. were claimed as a dependent on someones tax filings in 2018 or 2019

Individuals who made over 75k lose 5$ per $100 earned over 75K up to 99k.

Claimants with dependents 17 years old and under receive $500 per dependent.

It is unclear at the moment whether individuals who are not required to file taxes such as individuals who receive SSI or veterans benefits will have to file taxes in order to receive the stimulus payment or if the SSA is coordinating with the IRS in order to directly deposit the payment into an available account, you may need to file taxes in order to receive the stimulus payment.

Check IRS.GOV for further details on qualification and check daily for instructions on how to receive the stimulus payment if you qualify and are not currently in the IRS database.

Great news for all of us on SS The answer is YES YOU WILL GET $1200 stimulus money… But you will have to go to this IRS website for the simple form and provide your bank info for direct deposit or if you want a check sent it will take longer. How can I file the tax return needed to receive my economic impact payment?

IRS.gov/coronavirus will soon provide information instructing people in these groups on how to file a 2019 tax return with simple, but necessary, information including their filing status, number of dependents and direct deposit bank account information. So in next couple weeks the form will be available Woo Hoo!!!

  9. Gary L.

But what about people on Social Security and others who are not typically required to file a tax return? The short answer is yes, they will receive a stimulus check as well.

The IRS is asking low-income taxpayers, senior citizens, veterans, those with disabilities and all other individuals who are not typically required to file their taxes to file a simple tax return instead. None of those mentioned will owe taxes as a result of filing the simple return.

If you receive food stamps, Social Security or other benefits, you can also count on receiving a stimulus check.

Direct deposit is the preferred method for distributing the cash pay outs but if the IRS doesn’t have someone’s banking information, the money will instead be sent in the mail, which could take longer. The agency plans to set up a web-based portal in the coming weeks at IRS.gov/coronavirus to allow citizens to submit the necessary information.

  10. Gary L.

Just a suggestion, try googling your questions, you will get the answers there. You have a computer for cripes sake use it! O K, ding bats. There is some talk by Democrats trying to create legislation that will raise SS benefits by $200 a month, but no movement yet. Your computer can access every book ever written. All books and documents in all libraries in the world. Every poem ever published every work of art in all museums. The total sum of all mans knowledge is right at your fingertips. USE IT! Turn off your TV and open your mind.

    • The O.

That is wishful thinking, Google and Microsoft are run by Democrats so you will only get half truths and propaganda rather that facts. Try it… Google “Why doesn’t Hillary run a comb through her hair and never changes her clothes” or “How much brain cells does Biden have left”, or “Why does Plosie chew her cheeks and stutter” or why do ex democrat presidents never go away when Republicans retire and are never heard from again (Narcicism)”… Google hides everything that they consider negative to the Democrat Party. I am going to Google and see what I am interested in like: the greatest hits of Captain and Tenille (Muskrat love), The MgGuire sisters, Boxcar Willie, Slim Whitman, etc and see what I get.

      • Gary L.

Should call yourself old fool. Everything I wrote is true everything you wrote is bullshit. Google does not control the internet and in itself posts nothing. The internet is the collective mind of all people. People control the internet google only provides the servers and software. You are the victim of propaganda to keep you from being an independent thinker and keep you the stupid ignorant moron sheep you are. When you search google for information for example, quantum physics, you will open many different scholarly independently created websites created by many different people, scientists, professors, scholars et al.My advice, turn off your TV. Stop watching divide and conquer MSM news.

        • The a.

Your post is the perfect example of what I have stated; (if you do not agree with me you are wrong/ “I am the pseudo-intellectual in here”) Try going into any chatroom (Yahoo,, etc.) and say something good about our Great President and you will be booted and banned immediately. The Internet does not exist, it is not a tangible thing, Computers and not intellegent, they are combinations of 1’s and 0’s (nothing but on/offf switchs in multiple combinations to create numbers and characters), Google routinely places search listing orders to favor Liberal, Socialist ideology to brain wash the youngest amonst us. NOW, you must now opologize and pay tribute to me because I am always right. Get used to it.

      • Gary L.

YouTube has that music. I get all TV shows all movies for free off internet. Google does not censor anything. Mister, your closed mind and you are so cocksure of your ideas make you an idiot.

        • The C.

The internet also has porn and anti-Christian Propaganda. And yes I agree with you, I am cocksure; you say that like it’s a bad thing.
