Coronavirus (COVID-19): Important Information about Social Security Services

All local Social Security offices will be closed to the public for in-person service starting Tuesday, March 17, 2020. This decision protects the population we serve—older Americans and people with underlying medical conditions—and our employees during the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. However, we are still able to provide critical services.

This is from NBC’s website which got hundreds of letters many of them from retired and disabled who don’t pay taxes. Here is their response on whether those people will get a stimulus check:
“The Treasury Department’s written proposal obtained by NBC News called for “payments to individual taxpayers, to be administered by the IRS and Bureau of the Fiscal Service.” That language suggests that Americans would have to be taxpayers to qualify.”
To sum out there is no definitive decision yet as to whether those of us on SSI, retired, disabled will get a check, lets hope so!
Maybe all of us should be calling/faxing/writing emails to our congressmembers lobbying for this on our own behalf?
But various senators’ proposals have referred more generally to “Americans,” and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said this week that “we’re looking at sending checks to Americans immediately.” Because those on Social Security and disability are among the most economically vulnerable populations, it seems likely that Congress would act to ensure that they would be included in any emergency aid.
The Treasury Department and the Senate Finance Committee didn’t immediately respond to inquiries about whether Americans who don’t pay taxes would be eligible.

They did a package already for those who got displace, jobs , unemployment, and Buisness, now its this package for the people even ss people and others of adults, the house is thinking what ways to do it, there’s the pro’s and con’s they will sort it, you will hear the good and the neg. Of thing’s, but you will hear there finale decision some time soon or next week , so dont fret so much, what people never had should never be missed, and thats life get use to it .

The checks are NOT $1,000; they’re UP TO $1,000 each.
If some people weren’t so obsessed with [gasp!] millionaires getting a $1,000 check, which is a drop in the bucket for them, EVERYONE would be getting the same amount.
Initially, the plan was to also cut families a 500-buck check per child, but that was jettisoned in favor of checks of, I repeat, UP TO $1,000 each.
Someone will decide how much everyone “needs.”

People on ss will get checks from simulis package plan. The amount is up the air so far,thats what unemployment is for when people loose their jobs, this package is for all, adults with a ss # who have worked period, whether those who cant work anymore, that get assistance from afar, ss people get benifits , benifits that they paid for while working , its like an insurance policy, To simulate the economy 100%, all will get this package, not just working people! ! If they only did the working class the simulas wouldn’t work, it must include all adults whom have work at some point in time,, some common sence needs be apply when looking to do great things for this down turn economy ! Granted trump may lack that, but the chambers are not trump, they have the say of saying yes or no, but then i think this package should go into other ways, like beef up inter fracture work make jobs build up america within, even after people get cash and spend it, there only going to be right back at square one, broke ! Like i said its all up in the air for now, the house has to decide what is best, and they have till next wk, or longer to find a plan, so wait and see what happens,

I keep checking this thread for an answer. I don’t see anything definitive.
I am hearing over and over from Senators even the President that the checks will go out to all working Americans, that it’s to replace the lost income stream. Even Sen Joe Manchin is fighting to EXCLUDE those receiving governments payments like Veterans, disabled unemployment or welfare. As their lives and income have not been disrupted. Even Lindsey Graham just said this would be to replace income lost from employment…he’s pushing for an increase in Unemployment benefits bringing it up to 70% of their lost income.
I HIGHLY DOUBT we are included in this stimulus program….just another time we seniors are left out or not taken into consideration. Like ummm COLA adjustments annually EVER reflects our actual cost of living.

I went online to do some online banking and noticed SSA had deposited $2.00 in my account. Was wondering if anyone can tell me what this is. My benefit is due 3/25.
