“I want to provide an update to people who receive benefits from the Social Security Administration.

The Department of the Treasury (Treasury) announced on April 1 that Social Security beneficiaries who are not typically required to file tax returns will not need to file an abbreviated tax return to receive an economic impact payment. The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) will use the information on the Form SSA-1099 to generate $1,200 economic impact payments to Social Security beneficiaries who did not file tax returns in 2018 or 2019.

Treasury, not Social Security, will make automatic payments to Social Security beneficiaries. Beneficiaries will receive these payments by direct deposit or by paper check, just as they would normally receive their Social Security benefits.

For updates from the IRS, visit their web page.

Note for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) Recipients:

We are working closely with Treasury to address outstanding questions about our SSI recipients in an attempt to make the issuance of economic impact payments as quick and efficient as possible. We realize people are concerned, and the IRS will provide additional information on their web page when available. Please note that we will not consider economic impact payments as income for SSI recipients, and the payments are excluded from resources for 12 months.”

only one person on here knows what they’re talkin about. There’s no sense in asking questions here because nobody answers.

    • ssdi i.

I ANSWERED WITH ACCURATE INFORMATION. I CANT HELP IT IF THESE PEOPLE ARE TOO STUPID TO ACTUALLY READ BUT MOST OF THESE FOLKS DONT HAVE THE SENSE GOD GAVE GEESE. GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY AND GOD BLESS AMERICA!

  2. Kathy

I get my daughters SSI benefits on a direct express card. She is eligible for the check, but does she have to wait for the paper check for five months?

  3. Tiffany C.

Will we get a check on our direct Express card

  4. Dave

There seems to be a lot of mis-information floating around here.
*taxpayers w/ direct deposit info will have their payments direct deposited
*no direct deposit info, a check will be mailed starting April 24 to last address on file
*SSDI and SSI will get direct deposits or checks in mail depending on how you receive your benefits every month
*If you have no social security # you WILL NOT get a payment
*paper checks willl be mailed starting April 24th from lowest to highest incomes starting at 0-$10,000 then every $10,000 increment up to $100,000 every week

You are wrong they have not decided what they’re going to do about people in SSI as far as how they’re going to get a stimulus if they need to file or not

  5. Cindy

I receive SSI on a Direct Express card & a small check from the state on a Oklahoma card I don’t file my takes but the state DHS does it for me because I get my $40 tax return on my Oklahoma card so will I get the Covid-19 impact return return since I don’t file myself and if so how will I get it on one of those cards if so which one and when and my son lives with me he is 27 and he doesn’t work he helps take care of me and is going to try and get Disability for his Medical Problems. It says that you get the $1200 plus $500 per child but he is of age and lives with me so idk

    • DAVID P.

your payment will be direct deposited to wherever your monthly social security payment goes to. If you claim your son as a dependent regardless of age, you would get another $500 for him, but then he wont be eligible to get the $1200 payment

  6. LJL

What if you have an overpayment being garnished from your paycheck? will you still get it? I can’t find any answer online about this. Thanks!

    • DAVID P.

yes you will still get it – obligations to the irs or state will not affect your stimulus payment. The only barrier would be is if you owe back child support, then you get no stimulus check

WHOEVER ISNT ALREADY A SS BENEFICIARY IS NOT GOING TO GET THE STIMULUS CHECK UNLESS THEY FILE A TAX REFUND BECAUSE THE ONLY REASON PPL ON SS DONT HAVE TO FILE IS BECAUSE ALL OF OUR INFO IS ALREADY ON FILE FROM THE 1099 WE GET EVERY YEAR. ALSO HOWEVER YOU RECEIVE YOUR SS PAYMENT WHETHER DIRECT DEPOSIT, EXPRESS CARD OR A PAPER CHECK IS GOING TO BE HOW YOU GET THE STIMULUS. JUST DONT EXPECT TO GET IT UNTIL MAY AT THE EARLIEST BECAUSE THE TREASURY DOESNT CARE ABOUT US AS A DEMOGRAPHIC AND ISNT PRIORITIZING MAKING THE DIRECT PAYMENTS THAT THE LAW STIPULATES. SO EVERYONE ALREADY ON SS SHOULD BE REALISTIC AND UNDERSTAND THAT THOSE DIRECT DEPOSIT PAYMENTS YOU MAY HAVE HEARD ARE GOING OUT ON APRIL 9TH ARE JUST FOR PEOPLE WHO ARE MINIMUM WAGE WORKERS WHO FILED THEIR TAXES AND HAVE DIRECT DEPOSIT SET UP WITH THE IRS. WHEREAS OUR CHECKS ARE COMING FROM THE TREASURY DEPARTMENT AND THEY ARE GOING TO TAKE AS LONG AS POSSIBLE BEFORE THEY SEND IT BECAUSE THEY FEEL AS THOUGHT THEY HAVE UNTIL ATLEAST MAY BECAUSE THATS THE WAY THEY HAVE WORDED WHEN CHECKS WILL BE ISSUED. THATS WHY THEY HAVE SAID ”HOWEVER YOU RECEIVE YOUR SS BENEFITS” SO IF YOU GET YOUR SS BENEFITS DIRECT DEPOSITED MAY 1ST THATS WHEN YOU SHOULD EXPECT YOUR STIMULUS CHECKS. PURE LOGIC. ANY HOW LETS KEEP THE LESS FORTUNATE IN OUR PRAYERS AND HAVE A STRONG FAITH THAT THE LORD WILL PROVIDE. GOD BLESS AMERICA!

  8. Jen

Why is it taking so long for the irs to let people on ssi know how they are going to get the stimulus??????

    • DAVID P.

Covid payments are direct deposited, or paper check depending on how you get your regular social security payment. these payments are deposited by the treasury department and not social security

      • Michele M.

From everything I’ve read, when you sign up for Direct Express it is through the treasury who in turn are the ones who have your deposit info. This has been very confusing for most of us. I’m still looking for a definitive answer.

        • edward v.

So am i. i can’t find a thing about this card i have been useing for to years..i wish they would tell us something so we know what to do.. Direcr Express needs to tell us something please..

  9. mike

will we be getting the stimulus on the direct express cards?

  10. Jolieen F.

My sister is waiting for disability. She did NOT file taxes in 2018 or 2019, will she get stimulus check? Where would she put her direct deposit info?
