Commissioner of Social Security Shares Update about COVID-19 Economic Impact Payments for Beneficiaries
Reading Time: 1 MinuteLast Updated: February 21, 2023
“I want to provide an update to people who receive benefits from the Social Security Administration.
The Department of the Treasury (Treasury) announced on April 1 that Social Security beneficiaries who are not typically required to file tax returns will not need to file an abbreviated tax return to receive an economic impact payment. The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) will use the information on the Form SSA-1099 to generate $1,200 economic impact payments to Social Security beneficiaries who did not file tax returns in 2018 or 2019.
Treasury, not Social Security, will make automatic payments to Social Security beneficiaries. Beneficiaries will receive these payments by direct deposit or by paper check, just as they would normally receive their Social Security benefits.
For updates from the IRS, visit their web page.
Note for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) Recipients:
We are working closely with Treasury to address outstanding questions about our SSI recipients in an attempt to make the issuance of economic impact payments as quick and efficient as possible. We realize people are concerned, and the IRS will provide additional information on their web page when available. Please note that we will not consider economic impact payments as income for SSI recipients, and the payments are excluded from resources for 12 months.”

Alot of you all are sending out false information and need to go.back and do your research I.have family members who works for the the government who gave me the official information that I have already sent out two people concerned about who’s getting it and who’s not yes people on Social Security SSI and people with very low income in all will be getting the stimulus check and they don’t have to fill out a form the only ones that have to fill out a form are the ones who work or file taxes every year so stop sending out false information I have family members who work for the government who also I have a lot to do with these checks getting out two people through their accounts or via checks so if you don’t know what you talking about stop posting Smh hating on the poor people you ought to be ashamed of yourselves for being selfish and praying on the poor to not be able to receive their suffering as well from this virus that was on purposely put out here they deserve a little compensation to for the inconvenience of their lives the hell just like God Made A Way to stop businesses he’ll make a way for all of you selfish people to not receive a thing just keep being hateful like you’re doing

What about those who’ve applied for SSDI and are in the “Hearing” stage waiting. I’m a post cancer patient with major residual pain from cancer treatments and I’ve been fighting for SSDI several times for 4+ years.
Haven’t worked in almost 2 years with no income and filed taxes hoping for the stimulus check. Hope those in the “waiting” like me will get a check.
Thank you in advance for your answer.

Thank you Pamela. I receive my SS benefits via direct deposit. However I also file tax returns for self employment tax (no income tax). I receive no refunds either by direct deposit nor snail mail. Does that mean I will still receive my stimulus check by direct deposit? The ‘those who do not file’ is confusing to my case. Thanks

I HAVE A QUESTION? WILL STIMULUS MONEY BE PLACED ON ARE DIRECT EXPRESS CARDS
Kari
It says we will recieve it the same way we get our monthly checks. Hand R block told me the same thing I dont have to file ,but i thought i would ask them.

Thank you, Pamela Godwin. I do receive my SS benefit direct deposit, but I also file a tax return and pay self-employment tax (no income tax). I get no refunds sent. I assume that I would still receive my stimulus check by direct deposit….? TKU
