Coming Soon: Improved Check Your Application or Appeal Status Service
Reading Time: 1 MinuteLast Updated: November 3, 2023
In December, Social Security will launch a new service for my Social Security account holders where the public can check on the status of an application for benefits or an appeal filed with us.
The service will provide detailed information about retirement, disability, survivors, Medicare, and Supplemental Security Income claims and appeals filed either online on our website or with a Social Security employee.
The ability to check your application status will be available online to everyone who has or opens a secure personal my Social Security account. You can open an account on our website.
The service will provide important information about your claim or appeal, including, as appropriate:
- Date of filing.
- Current claim location.
- Scheduled hearing date and time.
- Incomplete applications.
- Servicing office location.
- Claim or appeal decision.
If you are unable to open a personal my Social Security account, you can still call 1-800-772-1213 to check your claim status by using our automated system using the confirmation number you received when you filed your claim.
Providing our customers with more claim status information helps us meet our goal of delivering innovative, quality services to you and helping secure today and tomorrow.

I went through the complete appeals process and met with a judge to hear my case. He agreed with me that I had been wrongly accused of having an overpayment on my account. It took about 8 months before social security sent my money back that they had been withholding each month. I received a letter stating the corrected monthly benefit. Ten days later I received another letter from social security again stated that I was overpaid. This time the amount is higher then the first time. I have appealed again and have contacted a local senator who has sent letters. They are again withholding money.
Why has the appeals process failed me.
Please help

It’s now 2020 – i can find no path to track Medicare spousal application on mySSA portal. Every point of entry, including with RealID, leads to a single Overview page, and Help directions describe page contents that aren’t served up, so, succinctly, “you can’t get there from here.” I’m now on 9th phone call this morning, attempting to reach a human rep in Campbell, CA SSA office, tho would appreciate any guidance you can furnish, to access applications and tracking for one in progress. Direct email communication with representatives would simplify the challenge of closed offices, tho that isn’t offered as an option – why?

You allude to ability to check status online. Please provide link for this area of mySSA portal, as navigation leads to dead end, or circular aorkflow that doesn’t reach application status page.

In October 2019 and January 2020 I requested online reconsideration of two related retirement benefit overpayment determinations. I have heard nothing. When will I hear?
