woman on laptopIn December, Social Security will launch a new service for my Social Security account holders where the public can check on the status of an application for benefits or an appeal filed with us.

The service will provide detailed information about retirement, disability, survivors, Medicare, and Supplemental Security Income claims and appeals filed either online on our website or with a Social Security employee.

The ability to check your application status will be available online to everyone who has or opens a secure personal my Social Security account. You can open an account on our website.

The service will provide important information about your claim or appeal, including, as appropriate:

  • Date of filing.
  • Current claim location.
  • Scheduled hearing date and time.
  • Incomplete applications.
  • Servicing office location.
  • Claim or appeal decision.

If you are unable to open a personal my Social Security account, you can still call 1-800-772-1213 to check your claim status by using our automated system using the confirmation number you received when you filed your claim.

Providing our customers with more claim status information helps us meet our goal of delivering innovative, quality services to you and helping secure today and tomorrow.

I would like to check on my claim status.

    Thank you!

    • A.C.

Hi, Teresa. Good news! If you applied for Social Security or Supplemental Security Income benefits, or have a pending reconsideration or hearing request, you can log in to or create a personal my Social Security account to check the status of your application. We hope this helps!

It’s been 96 days since my fully favorable disability letter arrived and not one call, letter and my Social Security account has yet to update since my first unfavorable hearing back in 2017. I’m in the dark and no one can tell me what is going on or seems to care, unacceptable when one’s life is being played with

I filed an appeal online on 10/11/18 and online on 12/12/18. Received finally on 01/31/19 a reply from SSA that they will review my claim. I have sent a letter to Mid-America Program Service Center on 4/12/19 detailing my appeal. I have contacted the local office and called the 800 number and can get no response. Nothing exists online for me to determine when my appeal will be reviewed. SSA reference # on the letter I received was BNC# is 19M1922EO9917-A. This is going on 8 months regarding SSAs incorrect calculation of my SS benefit. Ridiculous.

Hi, Carol. We are sorry to hear about your frustration. Unfortunately, but for your security, we do not have access to private information in this venue. We ask that members in our Blog community to continue to work with our offices with specific questions. You can call us at 1-800-772-1213, Monday through Friday, between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m., for assistance. Generally, you will have a shorter wait if you call later in the day. You can also contact your local Social Security office. We hope this helps.

Trying to find information on how to apply for food assistance.

  7. Jane M.

I was all set to create a My Soc. Security acct until I learned I would then no longer receive the hard copy of my account in the mail. Why can’t we have both?

    • V.V.

Hi Jane, thank you for your question. Once you have access to your Social Security Statement online, you can view, print, or save it at any time. There’s no need to wait for it to arrive in the mail.

  10. Robin E.

I cant get through to anyone to find out about my minor childs survivor benefits. It was filed in March 2018 and denied in October 2018. I appealed in November 2018 and I was supposed to know by March 2019 if it was accepted or denied.
