woman on her ipadSocial Security has a new way for you to conduct business with us online. You no longer need to visit our offices or call us to appeal a denial or adverse action related to your benefits. Beginning December 10, 2016, you can file an appeal online for non-medical issues, even if you live outside the United States. Examples of non-medical appeals include those for overpayments and Medicare premium rates.

The online appeals application is simple, convenient, and secure; it guides you through every step of the process. From outlining your rights to an appeal, to publications on the appeals process, a fair review of your case is right at your fingertips. The online application also lets you upload supporting documentation and save your submission.

Submitting your appeal and necessary documents online will save time and can help expedite the decision. Here are some things you’ll need when you’re ready to submit an appeal:

  • Notice date or receipt from Social Security that explains what adverse action you wish to appeal; and
  • Supporting documentation you wish to add to your request for appeal.

You can learn more about our appeals process by reading our publication Your Right To Question The Decision Made On Your Claim.

Social Security is constantly looking for ways to make our services accessible and readily available when you need them. It’s part of our commitment to delivering excellent service and providing you with more options, like an online appeal, to conduct your business.

my SS payment is $5 less than last year even with the increase. It would usually be increased by a few dollars. Can we get an explanation or is it because SS cuts?

Subject:: Request for retirement benefit reconsideration
    Dear Sir:
    1. I have been receiving my monthly retirement benefit of $178.00 since Jan 2019 to Sep 2019. However, for some unknown reason, my benefit was deducted from $178.00 to $138.00 after Sep 2019.( I’m just wondering if maybe the change on my retirement benefit was caused by typographical error by SSA staff.)
    2. I sent a registered airmail letter (RA 096 91577 6 TW) to the Office of International Operations (Baltimore MD) on Sep 23,2019 asking them (1) to give an explanation on why my retirement benefit amount is lower than usual and (2) a request for my benefit reconsideration.4 months has already passed, I still have not received any further explanation for that change.
3.Although my new benefit is increased to $140.00 on Jan 2020, an unreasonable situation still exists. I deeply desire that you check the documents concerning my retirement benefit amount which was given to me during the period of 2018 and 2019 by SSA. I would appreciate an explanation and any help you can give me to resolve this situation.
    4. my SSN: *** – ** – ***
    Thank you

I’ve tried to call and wait time is quite long. My new benefit amount notice said my benefit will increase by 1.6% in 2020, however the amount is actually staying the same.
    Please advise.

Received statement of new SS benefit amount for 2020. It is WRONG. Do not deduct $59.20 for Humana RX Plan. The amount to deduct is $13.20.

I don’t know if I’m in the right place for this but I received my new benefit amount for the 1.6% increase for 2020 and I am now receiving less than I was before. Before the increase I was getting $1438.50 now I’m getting $1423.90 which is a $14.60 decrease. I don’t understand why I’m getting less than what I was getting it its supposed to be a 1.6% increase. Thank you for your time and please let me know.
