Act Now – Go to IRS.gov – A Message from Social Security Commissioner Andrew Saul

Social Security beneficiaries and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients who don’t file tax returns will start receiving their automatic Economic Impact Payments directly from the Treasury Department soon. People receiving benefits who did not file 2018 or 2019 taxes, and have qualifying children under age 17, however, should not wait for their automatic $1,200 individual payment. They should immediately go to the IRS’s webpage and visit the Non-Filers: Enter Payment Info Here section to provide their information.

Social Security retirement, survivors, and disability insurance beneficiaries with dependent children and who did not file 2018 or 2019 taxes need to act by Wednesday, April 22, in order to receive additional payments for their eligible children quickly. SSI recipients need to take this action by later this month; a specific date will be available soon.

By taking this proactive step to enter information on the IRS website about them and their qualifying children, they will also receive the $500 per dependent child payment in addition to their $1,200 individual payment. If beneficiaries in this group do not provide their information to the IRS soon, their payment at this time will be $1,200. People would then be required to file a tax year 2020 tax return to obtain the additional $500 per eligible child.

I urge Social Security and SSI recipients with qualifying children who do not normally file taxes to take action now. Immediately go to IRS.gov so that you will receive the full amount of the Economic Impact Payments you and your family are eligible for.

Action Needed for Social Security Beneficiaries with Dependents and Who Do Not File Tax Returns to Receive $500 Per Child Payment

People with Direct Express debit cards who enter information at the IRS’s website should complete all of the mandatory questions, but they may leave the bank account information section blank as Treasury already has their Direct Express information on file.

Additionally, any new beneficiaries since January 1, 2020, of either Social Security or SSI benefits, who did not file a tax return for 2018 or 2019, will also need to go to the IRS’s Non-Filers website to enter their information as they will not receive automatic payments from Treasury.

      The “I’m an idiot” category.

      • Renee G.

Speak for yourself, idiot. It’s a legit question that millions of people have. If you can’t help her, keep it moving.

I’m confused on something. What if you were claimed as a dependent on someone’s taxes, but did not meet the eligible requirements for disability on tax information. Would a SSI recipient still receive the economic impact payment?

    • Terri

      Unfortunately NO

2018, 2019, I was getting survivors benefits Social Security because my husband passed away in 2010 and we had a handicap daughter that I took care of but she passed away in November 2019 and now I don’t get Social Security anymore, my question is do I need to fill out non-filers form to get my stimulus check? I still have the same bank account that my SS was direct deposited.

    • Melisa

Please can someone tell me what I need to do?

i am in the 11lk on ssdi , i went into get my payment and it actually work this morning , however i wonder why , because i thought ssi ssdi vet rr dont have to do amything if they dont file . i file 2018 and started receiving ssdi in 2019 , i am confused it like they put us last and they decided to just mail out checks instead of finishing up the ssi ssdi vet rr people.

I am so confused I get about 800 a month part ssi part social security ..so I get a check on the 1st and 3rd …i didn’t file federal taxes I only filed to get that rent rebate…im so confused…when will I get my stimulus money. On my direct express card ….its been said so many different times but never happens…there are a lot of disabled and elderly folks in my building with the same questions we’ve talked only by ear what’s being done or said can I please get a straight answer …it would sure calm the fears of 85 people in my building …just to know when…would be a wonderful thing thank you

    • Sally

Tracy, I too am one of those that are very confused. I am on SSDI I have been told that my stimulus check would come with my regular check the beginning of May. My brother had to fill out tons of paperwork for my 91 year-old mother for her to get hers. I just can’t figure out if I need to fill out any paperwork or just sit tight and wait I don’t want to miss any deadline. Best of luck!

    • s n.

i to get 800 a month between ssa and ssi and im confused also , others around me already got theirs !

      • Blake

ok, here us what I understand. The problem with SSI, Railroad retirement, VA benefit receipients is THEY DO NOT HAVE TO FILE TAXES. The IRS, in its infinite wisdom, DID NOT CONSIDER THESE GROUPS. So the IRS has to go back and figure out how to pay all of these people, and they don’t know what the heck they are doing. That is literally it, in a nutshell. WE will get our $1200 eventually, but you might as well just quit worrying about it, it is not going to be quick, and there is literally nothing you can do. I desperately need the money as many of you do, but this is actually a BIG problem in the system, it will take a LONG time to reconcile. I predict by the start of fall everyone should have their FIRST EIP of 1200. More if you have dependents. Everyone else will have probably gotten 2 or 3 checks by then. We were left behind, period.

I understand it now good grief, how did i miss i this. This wk is for people who gross benefits are. $10,000.00 a yr. And if some have direct express cards or bank accounts got them, next wk its the 20,000.00 gross benefits, and so on wk 30,000.00 makes all sence now. Starting in the low end of going up wards. I was looking at it in paper checks only. But direct express card are included too and bank accounts. But they did say by 29th all ssdi should have em yeah i figured it out. Age is robbing my memory, i had a brain fart today horrible day thursday, and then its ssi beginning may first week of. The rest will be paper checks, i.r.s. is working extremely hard to accomplish this, bravo to i r s thank you so much .all be well and stay safe

    • Deb

It should’ve been 10000 last week and 20000 this week 30000 next

      • Lil

The ones that filed taxes in 2018 with a refund got theres mid april..starting with 10,000.

    • Anitakins

Thanks Peter your comments had given me hope..thank you for being kind and considerate to the needs of others…sending much light and blessings

    • Susan J.

i get less than 10,000 a year and have not recieved mine yet

      • preston

m2 and i still havent got mine as of today 4/24 im sick n hungry

    • Matthew M.

That was my understanding by the 29th of April no later than May 1st we would have our stimulus check. Now don’t get confused on May 1st you get paid because the 3rd falls on Sunday if you get paid on the 3rd. So you should have stimulus check and your SSDI check. God bless
