Act Now – Go to IRS.gov – A Message from Social Security Commissioner Andrew Saul

Social Security beneficiaries and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients who don’t file tax returns will start receiving their automatic Economic Impact Payments directly from the Treasury Department soon. People receiving benefits who did not file 2018 or 2019 taxes, and have qualifying children under age 17, however, should not wait for their automatic $1,200 individual payment. They should immediately go to the IRS’s webpage and visit the Non-Filers: Enter Payment Info Here section to provide their information.

Social Security retirement, survivors, and disability insurance beneficiaries with dependent children and who did not file 2018 or 2019 taxes need to act by Wednesday, April 22, in order to receive additional payments for their eligible children quickly. SSI recipients need to take this action by later this month; a specific date will be available soon.

By taking this proactive step to enter information on the IRS website about them and their qualifying children, they will also receive the $500 per dependent child payment in addition to their $1,200 individual payment. If beneficiaries in this group do not provide their information to the IRS soon, their payment at this time will be $1,200. People would then be required to file a tax year 2020 tax return to obtain the additional $500 per eligible child.

I urge Social Security and SSI recipients with qualifying children who do not normally file taxes to take action now. Immediately go to IRS.gov so that you will receive the full amount of the Economic Impact Payments you and your family are eligible for.

Action Needed for Social Security Beneficiaries with Dependents and Who Do Not File Tax Returns to Receive $500 Per Child Payment

People with Direct Express debit cards who enter information at the IRS’s website should complete all of the mandatory questions, but they may leave the bank account information section blank as Treasury already has their Direct Express information on file.

Additionally, any new beneficiaries since January 1, 2020, of either Social Security or SSI benefits, who did not file a tax return for 2018 or 2019, will also need to go to the IRS’s Non-Filers website to enter their information as they will not receive automatic payments from Treasury.

WHEN will the Stimulus payment to Soc. Sec. recipients be paid? WHEN?

    • Peter

Guess what i just read it . social security PEOPLE who receive benefits should get it by 29th now should dose not mean WILL ! But thats what i read by 29th Wednesday should they said ! Be well n safe and good luck

      • matthew d.

        Where did you read that?

    • V.V.

Hi Marilyn, thank you for your question. Treasury, not Social Security, will be making automatic Economic Income Payments to eligible people. Unfortunately, we do not have information about the exact schedule for these payments. Treasury anticipates these payments to go out to Social Security retirement, survivors, and disability insurance beneficiaries starting around the end of April and to Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients starting in early May. Continue to check the irs.gov/coronavirus page for updates.

What happened to my comment? I’m starting to get paranoid. Is the IRS deducting back taxes from the stimulus payments??? I know that child support is deducted. Also i receive social security and have filed taxes every year. Do i get a stimulus payment and if so will it be by mail or the direct social Security deposit i use ? Posting again Hope this doesn’t vanish too.

We are retired, SS check gets auto deposited into USAA bank . For 2018 tax filing, we owed IRS. For 2019 we owed no tax, we filed anyway, early. Have not gotten stimulus check direct deposit in our account. Who is sending from treasury, SS or IRS and who is primary? IRS? Also, husband is a veteran and the news had said they would also be getting direct deposit. Is ours going to be mailed and not direct deposit,? Since we mailed in a 1040 without owing and no checking account # on form?

I am STILL waiting. I filed electronically over a month ago. I have conflicting answers to my concerns. Will the IRS deduct an offset for my owing taxes from 2019? other than deductions from child support? Secondly, i receive Social Security, monthly. so am i to receive the stimulus payment via social security.I tried to find my payment, with the correct information, on the IRS portal Get My Payment to no avail.Keep telling my my info doesn’t match the irs records when i know it’s correct. What is going on???

My husband and I receive SS payments as well as earn income. We have filed 2019 taxes and chose to have our refund applied to 2020 estimated taxes. Because we did not give IRS our direct deposit info I have been trying to enter it into “Get My Payment”. But every time I try, it keeps telling me that my information does not match. I have tried using both my 2018 and 2019 adjusted gross income figures and the tax amount I owed in 2018 and the refund amount for 2019 that is being applied to 2020. Am at a loss as to what to do to get my direct deposit info to IRS. Because we get SS will they use that direct deposit info?

    • R H.

Hollye, Enter 0 on the line that they say your refund would be recorded. That line on your tax form should say 0 if you had your refund put toward next year (right?), so enter 0. That is what I have been doing and get no message that it that it does not match. However, I have filled out the form many, many, many times and when I click enter, have gotten a technical difficulties message and to try later. It is my understanding that if you receive SSA, you will automatically get your payment…eventually. It’s a waiting game.

    • Joan M.

They will not use this money for anything other than Back Child Support. With that being said. I don’t think it’s going to let you use it for your estimated taxes. They will direct deposit into whatever banking information you have with your SS. GL with it.

On ssdi and ssi for 25 yrs, my wife doesn’t work or pay taxes and neither do I. I signed my wife and 3 kids up on turbo tax to get stimulus on April 6th before its was set up and before us ssi and ssdi ppl where told to sign up our dependents. Well on Monday 2400 came into my wife’s bank account and no 500 per child. For whatever reason I got my 1200 when the looked up my wife and seen she was married. I also filed her separately as so it wouldn’t interfere with my 1200. I won’t be surprised if I got another 1200 and ill tell u why. Every year my wife has to sign up for disability or ssi as to keep getting cash from welfare its there rules and for 3 times in the past 5 yts ssa gave me a deposit for 350 when she signs up and I call them and I’m told they don’t know why b and to just keep it. This past January I was given an140 deposit in middle of month for no reason also and they told me its most likely back payment. Also telling me its ok to keep because its such a small amount of money. You all will get it im sure I did but in a different way and I’ll keep you informed if I get more which I’m sure I will cause they alwagive me Xtra money.

    • Greg B.

Beware SS went back 10 years and made us pay back the over payment. There is NO time limit for the government, my advice put it in the bank and do not spend.

      • Mike

I’ve been and will spend it. I was told I can just sign a paper like last time that I’m to poor to pay it back. Yrs ago I got a letter that I was givin 55000 in overpay and showed my bank records which didn’t have the amount. They didn’t know what was going on so I was advised to just to sign off that I’m to poor. I’m always getting free money.

    • Stephanie H.

I’m in much the same situation as you Mike. My husband receives SSI and I don’t work but ,help him at home. Neither of us file taxes so I’m finding it difficult to fill out a no-filers form for myself. He should receive payment on his Direct Express card and without filing. How should I apply? Married filling jointly or ? I also have Cash App and their card for routing but, I’m afraid that would mess up his payment. I could leave the routing/acct. info blank and receive a check or they may put my stimulus money on my husbands SSI DExpress card along with his stimulus payment. Suggestions or information from anyone, please?

      • Peter

Married filling jointly because then it be 2,400 you get back so how would that mess him up? But i think he going to get his by next wk. So do a married but single filing for yourself . but dont take my word on this YOUR better going to a tax person

      • Mike

I filed on TurboTax married filing separately for my wife and 3 kids so it won’t mess me up and my 3 kids got nothing and me and wife got 2400 when I didn’t even include myself.
