A Constant Quest to Improve Our Online Services

Our online services make it possible for you to conduct business with us when and where it’s convenient for you. Our goal is to provide you with world-class service and our online services are a convenient, cost-effective, and secure way for us to better serve you. 

On our website, you can apply for retirement, spouse’s, disability, and Medicare benefits. You can use our benefit planners to calculate your future benefits. You can also find answers to your frequently asked questions. You can even apply for Extra Help to pay for the costs—monthly premiums, annual deductibles, and prescription co-payments—related to a Medicare prescription drug plan.

In addition, by opening a personal my Social Security account, you can keep track of your earnings and verify them every year by reviewing your Social Security Statement. You can get an instant benefit verification letter or one stating that you don’t currently receive benefits, never received benefits, or are waiting for an answer on your application for benefits.

If you receive benefits, you also can:

  • Change your address or telephone number;
  • Start or change your direct deposit;
  • Get a replacement SSA-1099 or SSA-1042S for your taxes; and
  • Replace your Medicare card.

    i’ve forgotten my password and my security question do not work. Can you reset my account so I can recreate my account?

    I thought I had a social security account, but when I try to create a new account and my new password and user name meet all of the qualifications but the new login does not go through. How do I find out if I had/have a social security account? thank you.

    I don’t know why you cannot submit a W4 on line. It seems a waste of time to have to mail a copy in. I don’t even carry stamps anymore. Everything is done electronically, why not a W4

    Soc Sec site is NOT USER FRIENDLY! How do I reset the 3 security questions to reveal my password? Didn’t even know I set up an acct. to view something-may have done YEARS AGO.Car question is totally silly, because cars I like change!!! Don’t know what I put down years ago! After 3 tries you’re out!! Them must wait a full week for reply by mail. WT heck? Not customer friendly!!! Especially for elderly!!! Make it easy to reset PW online!!+security questions!!!!!

    Instead of suspending my SS benefits each year that prompts me to go through the agonizing process to have same reinstated could you send me form 7162 in advance via email?

      Under current law, we are required to periodically verify if individuals living outside the United Sates are still eligible for Social Security benefits.
      The Foreign Enforcement Questionnaire (Form SSA-7162) is the primary measure for maintaining the benefit payments to beneficiaries residing outside the United States.
      The notice is generated automatically and mailed to beneficiaries annually or biannually depending upon the countries in which they reside.
      Remember for any assistance related to your Social Security benefits, please contact your local U.S. embassy or consulate. Also, our Office of International Operations home page provides more information to assist our customers living abroad.

    I took my mother to our Local Social Security office in December after her divorce from second husband was final. Updated her name change and made a claim against her first husband. To date, we HAVE ONLY received her new Social Security card but that is it. Medicare has not been updated and we have not received a letter regarding benefits. Her State I’D and SS cards DO NOT match her Medicare and Insurance cards. This lag time could be detrimental for the elderly needing emergent medical care.

To follow up on the status of your mother’s claim and the name change on her Medicare records, she will need to contact the representative that helped her file her claim. On her receipt there should be a local phone number for her to call and speak to someone about the status of her claim.
      Also, she can call our toll free number at 1-800-772-1213, and ask one of our agents to assist her. Representatives are available Monday through Friday, between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Thanks.
