I received a name change on my social security card in October 2017 in Las Cruces, New Mexico. I received my “New” Medicare Card in the mail that does not reflect the name change. The Medicare people told me that you, the Social Security people, need to send my name change to Medicare in order to have it corrected on my new Medicare Card. I worked for the government for 40+ years and none of this surprises me. Please tell me how to get my correct name on my “New” Medicare Card before I have to use it again and get refused for not having the correct name that I have been using for 70 years!

    • Ray F.

Our apologies for any inconvenience, James. To “correct” the name in your benefit’s record, you will have to visit your local Social Security office. You will need to provide us with supporting documents in relation to the correction or change of name. You can request to speak with the manager if you think is necessary, to expedite resolution of your situation. If you are unable to visit the local office, you can call our toll free number at 1-800-772-1213, representatives are available Monday through Friday, between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Generally, you will have a shorter wait time if you call later during the day or later in the week. Thanks.
