My husband I have yet to receive the new social security cards we have been heard about over the last 6 or so months. When will they be sent to us?

  2. Henry G.

I live in Pennsylvania, one of the states listed for on line card replacement but the site would not allow me to do this. The nearest SS office is a very long drive from my home. Please advise.

    • Vonda V.

Hi Henry, thank you for using our blog to ask your question. If you are unable to apply for your replacement Social Security card online and prefer not to go to the nearest office, your other option is to complete and sign the application and mail it in with the required documentation (original or certified documents). To learn more on the process and what documents you will need to get a card, please visit our Social Security Number and Card web page.

  3. Teresa A.

As an Illinois resident, it seems that I should have received my new replacement card by now. Please advise.

    • Ray F.

Hello Teresa. Your new Medicare card will automatically come to you. You don’t need to do anything as long as your address is up to date.
If you need to update your address, visit your My Social Security account. Thanks!

I have been at the SS website trying to access what I need to do to get replacement cards for my SS card and Medicare card. I have put in my correct information, but I get an error message saying my info does not match your records. My Information:
    Leona DeMartino
    born: Nov. xx 1942
I am not giving my SS number until I can access what I need to get replacements. I also would like to speak with a human directly.
I am quite concerned with identity theft and would like to begin the process ASAP. I would appreciate your help in this matter.
    Thank you,
    Leona DeMartino

  6. Geri

My parents got their new medicare card and then destroyed their Social Security Cards. Is this correct to destroy the SS card or just their old medicare card?

    • Vonda V.

Hi Geri: A Medicare card is proof of Medicare insurance. A Social Security card contains a nine-digit Social Security number, which is needed to get a job, collect Social Security benefits and receive certain government services.

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services is sending new Medicare cards with new Medicare numbers. Instead of a Social Security Number (SSN), the new Medicare card will include a new number unique to the individual. Once the new Medicare card arrives in the mail, the old Medicare card can be destroyed.

For more information, go to the 10 things to know about your new Medicare card .

  7. Dennis B.

Have not received my new Medicare Care as of this date

    • Vonda V.

Hi Dennis, thank you for using the blog. Medicare will automatically mail your new card to the address you have on file with Social Security. As long as your address is up to date, there’s nothing you need to do. If you need to update your address, you can use your personal my Social Security account.

Mailing millions of Medicare cards takes some time, so you might get your card at a different time than friends or neighbors in your area.

Visit Medicare.gov/NewCard for additional information. Thanks!

  8. Reginald C.

I need a social security card and I know my # but my new employer is requesting a card. I continually tried to sign in on your internet site but it would not allow about 15-20 user ids or passwords

  9. Elena M.

    Never got my new card

  10. Judy G.

I lost my ss card. How do I go about replacing it?

    • Vonda V.

Hi Judy, thank you for your question. First, realize you may not need a replacement card. You will rarely need to show it. Knowing your Social Security number is what is important. However, if you must get a replacement card, you may be able to apply online. If you do not qualify to apply online, then you can apply by mail or visit your local office with required documentation. All documents must be either originals or certified copies.

To learn more on how to get a replacement card and see if you can apply online, please visit our “Social Security Number and Card” web page. We hope this helps!
