Update on Social Security Offices

Earlier this week, The White House issued national guidance regarding Opening Up America Again. We are evaluating this information as it relates to our agency and are continuing to closely monitor the COVID-19 situation across the nation. In fulfilling Social Security’s mission, when we reopen offices to the public, we will provide a safe environment for both the people we serve and our employees.

As we continue to develop our plans, our offices will remain closed to the public for face-to-face service, and our employees will continue to work remotely and provide services to the public. We will provide updates moving forward and post updated information on the status of our offices, by state, at our website. Our agency will provide these updates directly, and please disregard other sources of information regarding the status of our offices.

We will continue to provide the vital service the public relies on. Please visit our website for more information about our services during the pandemic.

    I find it hypocritical that SS Offices are closed for in-person assistance, considering our President and Vice-President don’t wear face masks deeming them not necessary. If grocery stores and other essential business can be open during this pandemic with precautions, so can the SS Administration Offices! This in-person service is ESSENTIAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!! EVEN DMV’S ARE OPEN NOW!!!!!!!

    I’m not telling you anything new: wait times at the SSA are horrible.

    Website for managing SS is antiquated and will lock you out of your account trying to do the easiest of things.

    THE OFFICE needs to open UP. People don’t have to go in if they don’t want to. You can manage the number of people ect. The REPRESENTATIVES sit behind glass already.

    All the employees are GETTING paid with our tax dollars. OPEN UP!

    So, month 2 with out my payment, and no one at the 800# can tell me why. Just that they have 60 more days to figure it out…….. paperwork started in Jan 2020. It does not seem to matter I will lose my house before that 60 days are up. The office where the claim started is closed. Leaves me S.O.L.

However, we are still able to provide critical services via phone, fax and online. Please be aware that our call wait times are longer than normal. You can contact your local Social Security office.     At the suggestion of one of your agents 2 years sho, upon my visit to your office, I had you block my a/c, since my SS# had been stolen and used, I cannot begin receiving my benefits without a face_to_face visit to your ofc. I had an appt. In March, one day after you closed for pandemic. I am also blocked on your website! Help!!!?

      •Call us at 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778), Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. At the voice prompt, say “helpdesk”; or
      •Contact your local Social Security office. Your local office can also set up another appointment for you to file an application for benefits. We hope this helps.

    I Am trying to get a replacement social security card for
    proof of identity for my NYS unemployment claim I must
    show proof in order to collect my benefits I have been out
    of work since 3/21/20 my home will go into forclosure if I
    cant collect my benefits I have until 6/15/20 to do so I desperately need documentation ASAP is there any way

    I am having many difficulties with creating my social security online and really need the offices to open while taking all the precautions needed. Not everything can be done online please can someone give me an estimated date as to when the offices will be opening up again.
    Why is it that the country is opening up taking as many precautions as needed and the social security is still not even giving an estimated date as to when the office will open. This is causing hardship on everyone while we are not being able to work like in my case because I cannot create an SSA, which should be very easy once I am identified, but your department is not ready to do these things online. We should at least have an idea as to when the offices will open. This is getting ridiculous now.
