The IRS takes new steps to ensure people with children receive $500 Economic Impact Payments
Reading Time: 1 MinuteLast Updated: August 17, 2020
The IRS has extended its deadline to September 30, 2020 to provide information to the IRS using its IRS’ Non-Filer Tool if you:
- Receive Social Security retirement, survivors, or disability benefits, or SSI payments.
- Did not file a 2019 or 2018 tax return.
- Have a qualifying child under age 17.
- You did not already enter information in the IRS’ Non-Filer Tool for you and at least one child.
If you already entered information in the IRS’ Non-Filer Tool before and even after the IRS’ previously announced deadlines (April 22 if you receive Social Security; May 5 if you receive SSI), you do not need to do anything. The IRS will automatically make a payment in October based on the information you provided them.
Please read the IRS’ August 14 press release for more details.

Hello,
I am serving overseas in the Republic of Malawi as a missionary but I am not able to access my SSA account. Like many other groups when my IP address is seen I am immediately blocked to complete my Census I am blocked. How can you assist me?
A.C.
Hi, Rosetta. To access your online account, you must have a U.S. mailing address. However, you can contact your local Federal Benefits Unit for any assistance related to Social Security benefits. Also, our Office of International Operations home page provides more information to assist our customers living abroad. We hope this helps.

What about the people who never got the 500 per child that actually filed taxes? I had one dependent and never got the 500 for him at all with the first stimulus and I can’t use the non-filers page because I file my taxes.

j_jeangilles@yahoo.com: Dear Sir/ Madam: Yet not withdrew from filing taxes. Federal and New York State returns for refunds were filed for years ended 2018-2019. However, for reasons which are not known either Stimulus Payments are received. Yet wishing and hoping something comes out of this ordeal. I am married and currently living with my spouse. Sincerely, Jean R. Jean-Gilles
