Supplemental Security Income Recipients Will Receive Automatic COVID-19 Economic Impact Payments

The Treasury Department announced that Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients will receive automatic Economic Impact Payments directly from the Treasury Department.  Treasury anticipates these automatic payments to go out no later than early May.

SSI recipients with no qualifying children do not need to take any action in order to receive their $1,200 economic impact payment. The payments will be automatic.

SSI recipients who have qualifying children under age 17, however, should not wait for their automatic $1,200 individual payment. They should now go to the IRS’s webpage and visit the Non-Filers: Enter Your Payment Info section to provide their information. By taking proactive steps to enter information on the IRS website about them and their qualifying children, they will also receive the $500 per dependent child payment in addition to their $1,200 individual payment. If SSI beneficiaries in this group do not provide their information to the IRS soon, they will have to wait until later to receive their $500 per qualifying child.

This is great news for SSI recipients, and I want to remind recipients with qualifying children to go to IRS.gov soon so that you will receive the full amount of the Economic Impact Payments you and your family are eligible for. I also want to thank the dedicated employees of the Treasury Department, Social Security, and the Internal Revenue Service for making this happen and working non-stop on this issue.

SSI Recipients with Dependent Children Should Still Go To IRS.gov to Provide Their Information

Social Security retirement, survivors, and disability insurance beneficiaries (who don’t normally file taxes) will also qualify for automatic payments of $1,200 from Treasury. These payments are anticipated to start arriving around the end of April.

The Treasury Department, not Social Security, will make these automatic payments to beneficiaries. Recipients will generally receive the automatic payments by direct deposit, Direct Express debit card, or by paper check, just as they would normally receive their SSI or Social Security benefits.

For those SSI and Social Security retirement, survivors, and disability insurance beneficiaries, with dependent children, who use Direct Express debit cards, additional information will be available soon regarding the steps to take when claiming children under 17, on the IRS website.

Please note that the agency will not consider Economic Impact Payments as income for SSI recipients, and the payments are excluded from resources for 12 months.

For more information about Social Security retirement, survivors, and disability insurance beneficiaries, please see our most recent blog.

The eligibility requirements and other information about the Economic Impact Payments can be found on the IRS website. In addition, please continue to visit the IRS for the latest information.

Does this mean that SSI recipients will receive an additional 1200 over and above the first stimulus check that was received April 15th for 1200?

    • figures

Hi Roger, thank you for your question. Please visit the IRS Get My Payment Frequently Asked Questions related to how much it is. We hope this helps.

I don’t understand why this has to be so complicated with the IRS Non-Filers page when many of us have mental disabilities and things like Traumatic Brain Injury. Those apply to my wife and I. We take care of each other because there is no one else. We haven’t filed taxes in over 30 years and can’t provide most of the information on that page. We have no credit card, IRS tax number, student loan account number, none of the things they ask for. It’s like a 100 foot hurdle they pulled out to prevent us from getting anything. We both get SSI and have electronic payment direct deposit but no money is showing up. Is it because I’m a veteran or something? I don’t get any benefits or anything.

    • kristie

zagan u are not supposed to use the non filer page. you will get yours automatically. some of us are still waiting.

    • V.V.

Hi Zagan, thank you for your question. Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients who do not have qualifying children under age 17 do not need to take any action with the IRS. You will automatically receive your $1,200 economic impact payment directly from the IRS. You should receive the automatic payments by direct deposit, Direct Express debit card, or by paper check, just as you would normally receive your Social Security benefits. Treasury expects automatic payments for Social Security beneficiaries no later than the end of April and automatic payments for SSI recipients no later than early May. We hope this helps.

Stimulus checks will not come for people on Social Security until they receive their monthly benefits next month it’s coming as one check also no one has any checks pending the get my check app does not work for people on Social Security also would not advise using PayPal to receive your stimulus check when the check comes next month as one big check don’t do what they want you to do and blow it they’ve delayed all of this for a reason don’t fall into their agendas

    • red

i was just going to enter my information when it says not to…… thanks man. i probably would have screwed myself over.

      • Troll k.

This is prolly the same guy who was on here almost a month ago telling all of us we weren’t getting shit, now hes on here trying to make himself feel better ,any luck trying to redeem yourself yet? Lol

Representative Payees should not be a thing for most people with disabilities. I don’t have one, I don’t need one, and I don’t want one. Having a representative payee is the same as having an idiot hold your bank account hostage. I keep seeing people mentioning them on here. I sympathize. It’s a foolish concept. It should only apply to people whose disability is severe stupidity.

    • George

Well Jim is actually an idiot, so it makes sense that he would have one. I’m not trying to pick on innocent people with disabilities, but his endless replies trying to tell me off was just annoying. I felt like I was arguing with the wall.

  6. Fay P.

I wonder why you guys on ssi or ssdi etc are now seeing payment status info and I am not. I also typed in my moms information, she gets social security retirement and doesnt get a lot, and it says payment status unavailable for her too. I am getting nervous now.Maybe we don’t get any? to those who are finally seeing something thank you for sharing.

    • ssdi i.

BECAUSE THOSE PEOPLE EITHER FILED LAST YEAR OR MORE THAN LIKELY THOSE ARE GOVERNMENT AGENTS SPREADING FALSE INFORMATION BECAUSE PEOPLE LIKE MYSELF EXPOSED THE TRUTH WAY TOO SOON.
NOTICE HOW THEY ARE CLAIMING TO HAVE A PENDING DEPOSIT WAAAAY NEXT WEEK? THAT DOESNT EVEN MAKE SENSE THAT YOUR BANK WOULD TAKE THAT LONG TO PROCESS IT. BUT EVEN IF WE GIVE THEM THE BENEFIT OF THE DOUBT IN TERMS OF THAT DONT YOU FIND IT ODD THAT ALLL CONFIRMED REAL PEOPLE ON SSDI HAVE NOT RECEIVED THIS PENDING STATUS, CANT EVEN TRACK THEIR PAYMENT AND DONT ACTUALLY KNOW ANYONE IN REAL LIFE ON SSD THAT HAS ANY PAYMENT PENDING?
THIS IS CALLED A DIVERSION. THESE PEOPLE ARE EITHER FORGETTING THAT THEY FILED A RETURN LAST YEAR OR ACTIVE AGENTS HERE TO SPREAD FALSE HOPPE AND QUIET DISSENTING VOICES WHO ARE ATTEMPTING TO WAKE UP THE MASSES TO JUST HOW LITTLE THESE PEOPLE IN POWER THINK OF US.
SOME OF YOU ARE JUST SO GULLIBLE AND EASILY DUPED THAT IT DRAGS DOWN OUR COLLECTIVE INTELLIGENCE. THE END OF APRIL AKA MAY 1ST – 15TH IS WHEN WE WILL SEE OUR STIMULUS LIKE I HAVE TOLD YOU PEOPLE FROM THE BEGINNING. THEY ARE JUST PUTTING OUT THESE FAKE ACCOUNTS SO PEOPLE DONT GET PISSED ONCE YOU REALIZE THEY LIED ABOUT OUR DEPOSIT DATE.

      • Mike

I have a pending deposit on the 22nd, unfortunately its going to a 6 yr plus old checking account. I get ssid and ssi since I have been 11 yrs old. No reason to lie to anyone. Also I haven’t filed taxes in 12 or more years, i get ssid and ssi. Hence I’m not getting my deposit it will be bumped back to a paper check as ssa gave my wrong information to its.

      • Peter

Get piss now or be pissed later that dont make sence,

    • I’ll b.

Cause they’re full of shit or your bank hasn’t put the ach hold on your check

Most likely they’re full of shit, I can tell this by going to the irs Twitter

There are people who work and paid taxes that haven’t even gotten theirs yet

      • Fay P.

I don’t know why agents here would create accounts to lie to people about their deposits.. when the time difference isn’t all that large. the 22nd to the end of April, beginning of May isn’t all that big of a difference, when we’ve been waiting all of this time anyway? And I don’t know about their banks, but mine takes 3-5 business days to process returns, so it’s very possible they are telling the truth.

i just want everyone to get their money so this can be done and over with. thanks all

        • People l.

The thing that shows me they’re lying…..if they say they used the get my payment app….it says right on the irs page under the button that SSA,VA,Railroad retirees the app won’t work

          • Fay P.

Geez I guess I was just being overly hopeful. It really looked like finally we were seeing some light. well at least my mom and I are not being left out.

        • Jerrod K.

Hey stupid, we were suppose to get our money starting April 11th, then they said the 15th, then the 17th, now it’s May. This administration is known for their LIES, and you don’t know why they’d lie to us? Lol! You’re OBVIOUSLY an idiot.

          • Fay P.

No, I am an 74 year old woman with a mother who is 98.Neither one of us read or hear well, and you know, after almost 80 years of an extremely difficult life the brain just doesn’t comprehend like it did before.so if being a jerk makes you feel better, great for you.

    • Mom711

Mine now said it would be mailed by the 24th of April. Both of my parents were the same this morning. I just began in Feb 2020 to recieve SSI AND SSDI after a nearly 3 year wait, and I filed for non filer on a free tax site weeks back since I do have one minor school age child so thats prob why it is saying it will be mailed for me instead of DD to my bank where I get my SSI/SSDI payments. Wish it was coming DD but I am just thankful to see its status updated! They are on the way folks so no worries! I just want to thank God and thank POTUS Trump for signing the bill and a special thanks to the Admin for getting these out just within a FEW WEEKS! The Admin is truly doing a great job and they are not sitting around complaining, instead they are getting things done as they should around the clock. Trump has stated several times he is in favor of a second payment but Congress is dragging thier feet so im not counting on it and am VERY GRATEFUL for this payment as we ALL should be! Stay safe everyone and I hope this will ease some of your minds and worries! This will help so much with the cost of food and needed goods right now! A real blessing 🙂

I have a huge feeling they’re just gonna give everyone checks as they’re having way to many issues with payments
If you look at the IRS twitter page it’s full of working tax filing citizens that still don’t have a payment
Hell people had their money go in a different account and they won’t get their money til the irs kicks it back but by then they’ll get a check

        • Fay P.

I would prefer the check then honestly. And thanks mom711

      • red

This is such crap. Mine still says Im not in the system, or whatever message it was. I feel like I should do the non filer payment, even though it says we automatically get our payments……………. yeah?? im not to sure about that anymore.

  7. Peter

I heard its supposed to be in alphabetical order with the lowest benifits first, im lower in alphabetical very end of , but not so low of benefits., im reckoned in around the 27th at least, as i see sone have gotten in word of 22nd pending, so finally some good news for this new Englander ,, go patriots, Bruins, red sox’s, and the Celtics , and Jessica

  8. J.P.

I e-filed on the 14th, entered direct deposit information and have checked the irs get my payment website several times…it continues to state it cannot determine my eligibility. I know in the beginning there was glitches with this site, does anyone know if that is still the case? There should not be any reason for it to be questioning my eligibility. Thanks.

  9. Jim

Please do NOT deposit my stimulus money in my SSI payee’s account! It is not SSI money and it is none of their business. How would they even know how to manage it because it is not under the normal rules.

    • George

Dude, no. No one can help you here. What do you think? That lady Vonda that responds to S.S questions is going to reply, and ask you for all of your private info to determine who you are, on a public website? Don’t be stupid. Get the fuck outta here.

      • Jim

Don’t be stupid. Of course she can pass on the information that giving the money to payees is idiotic. It plants the seed. Someone has to say something somewhere. This is probably the best forum right now to raise the issue. Representative payees were never designated for this purpose and it is not SSI money. Vonda can let someone know if they don’t already. They probably already realize the problem but it doesn’t hurt to say something.

        • George

You weren’t asking her to “pass on information” You were telling her to not send the money to your payee. Again, for the millionth time, as she has had to say, a MILLION god damn times, this is all from IRS, social security has nothing to do with any of this. The money is already being prepared to be shipped out, so you are shit out of luck. And btw, speaking of being stupid, having a payee? Uh huh. Do you have someone to wipe your ass also? Have fun receiving your money through your payee, whose business in fact it is, because you, or the courts, made it their business.

          • Jim

You want to shit on my disability like yours is better? Payees never agreed to be responsible for non-SSI money, they can’t just dump in their accounts without a specific decision and agreement to do so. Whether or not people with payees should have their money managed is a larger question.
