Supplemental Security Income Recipients, Act Now – Go to IRS.gov – A Message from Social Security Commissioner Andrew Saul

Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients who don’t file tax returns will start receiving their automatic Economic Impact Payments directly from the Treasury Department in early May. People receiving SSI benefits who did not file 2018 or 2019 taxes, and have qualifying children under age 17, however, should not wait for their automatic $1,200 individual payment. They should immediately go to the IRS’s webpage and visit the Non-Filers: Enter Your Information section to provide their information. SSI recipients who have dependent children and did not file 2018 or 2019 taxes need to act by Tuesday, May 5, in order to receive additional payments for their eligible children quickly. 

By taking this proactive step to enter information on the IRS website about them and their qualifying children, they will also receive the $500 per dependent child payment in addition to their $1,200 individual payment. If people in this group do not provide their information to the IRS soon, their payment at this time will be $1,200 only. They would then be required to file a tax year 2020 tax return to obtain the additional $500 per eligible child.

I urge SSI recipients with qualifying children and who do not normally file taxes to take action now. Immediately go to IRS.gov so that you will receive the full amount of the Economic Impact Payments you and your family are eligible for.

Lastly, a word of caution. Be aware of scams related to the Economic Impact Payments. There is no fee required to receive these payments. Don’t be fooled.

    This is bullshit you make the lowest of income people wait for their stimulas check and the wealthiest first and ssiand ss recipients last and we are still waiting get those checks out asap

    I don’t know what me and my children are going to do! I have tried for couple weeks now to get my payment info to go through but keeps rejecting me when I know I’m eligible. So I’m getting evicted and have no money for food and I loaned a neighbor in need my car and it burned to the ground. It’s crazy and I can’t find anywhere to call and get it taken care of… We need our home and we are hungry and I have a son who is special Ed and needs to make his Drs appointments and I am very ill and have had several surgeries and still require more life threatening/saving surgeries over 3hrs away from my home. It really just makes me feel hopeless and just ready to give up. I can’t work and am waiting on disability, however my minor daughter gets survivors cause her father passed away and I am the payee, plus I’m owed alot of back child support for my son, but I don’t guess we will survive this thing cause I’m not going to be able to get in touch with anyone to help with this issue so I guess the ones who struggle the most just fall through the cracks.     I wish the IRS would give us people on SSD that don’t have to file an receive the 1099 form when we will be getting our checks all you see is about checks being mailed an SSI an why is it it takes so long all they have to do is hit a button

    I filed both 2018 & 2019 Taxes but I do not have Dependent Children. It is my understanding that I will recieve my $ 1200 beginning after May 1st as will my wife without doing anything further. They will get my info directly from my 1099-R is that correct?

    I filed 2018 taxes….Have electronic installement payments to IRS monthly…I receive SSI monthly payments…Both IRS and SSI use the same account number..Since both agencies works hand in hand…Why is it..IRS cant use same account number..even if I dont have an account number on file for a tax refund…Seems pretty messy

      Yes, from what I understand whatever route your funds are transmitted on record with Social Security is how the stimulus payment will be deposited.

      If you receive your SSI on your card, so will also receive your stimulus money on card.
      If you are claimed as a dependent on someone’s 2019 tax return, you will not be eligible for the stimulus money.
