Supplemental Security Income Recipients, Act Now – Go to IRS.gov – A Message from Social Security Commissioner Andrew Saul

Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients who don’t file tax returns will start receiving their automatic Economic Impact Payments directly from the Treasury Department in early May. People receiving SSI benefits who did not file 2018 or 2019 taxes, and have qualifying children under age 17, however, should not wait for their automatic $1,200 individual payment. They should immediately go to the IRS’s webpage and visit the Non-Filers: Enter Your Information section to provide their information. SSI recipients who have dependent children and did not file 2018 or 2019 taxes need to act by Tuesday, May 5, in order to receive additional payments for their eligible children quickly.

By taking this proactive step to enter information on the IRS website about them and their qualifying children, they will also receive the $500 per dependent child payment in addition to their $1,200 individual payment. If people in this group do not provide their information to the IRS soon, their payment at this time will be $1,200 only. They would then be required to file a tax year 2020 tax return to obtain the additional $500 per eligible child.

I urge SSI recipients with qualifying children and who do not normally file taxes to take action now. Immediately go to IRS.gov so that you will receive the full amount of the Economic Impact Payments you and your family are eligible for.

Lastly, a word of caution. Be aware of scams related to the Economic Impact Payments. There is no fee required to receive these payments. Don’t be fooled.

We were told originally that no income tax filed, no stimulus check. So we filed for 2019. The online form would not allow us to sign and submit unless we used info from 2018 form. We did not file in 2018. and lost info for that year – earnings statements, w4’s. So we couldn’t file for 2018, and had to send in 2019 form by snail mail. Then we were told we did not have to file to receive stimulus check, they would use ss security form sent out yearly. So now what happens to our stimulus check? We would not normally submit a irs form, did so in order to qualify.

According to IRS website, SSI and Vet recipients will receive the stimulus money end of April or early May.

We are on Social Security and have not received a check yet.
So any idea when it is coming??????????

    • V.V.

Hi TD, thank you for your question. Treasury, not Social Security, will be making automatic Economic Income Payments to eligible people. Unfortunately, we do not have information about the exact schedule for these payments. Treasury anticipates these payments to go out to Social Security retirement, survivors, and disability insurance beneficiaries starting around the end of April and to Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients starting in early May. Continue to check the irs.gov/coronavirus page for updates.

    Don’t be greedy.
    How selfish can you be?
There are people that need it that haven’t gotten even one yet.

What about us that followed the rules signed up for the additional child tax credit when you first announced it, havent been able to do our side jobs for extra cash so are depending on this extra money, when are we gonna get paid? Why do we have to suffer and wait for these people that apparently cant follow rules and now all of a sudden it’s a big mess cuz they cant simply di what they were asked to do a month ago. I’m a widower father with a special needs son that coyldnt survive off of SSI alone so I do scrap metal and help hang ceiling fans and what not for extra cash now I’m stuck at home waiting on ignorant people to do something the government asked us to do a month ago and now its gonna be the middle of may before I get my check smh….
