Supplemental Security Income Recipients, Act Now – Go to IRS.gov – A Message from Social Security Commissioner Andrew Saul

Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients who don’t file tax returns will start receiving their automatic Economic Impact Payments directly from the Treasury Department in early May. People receiving SSI benefits who did not file 2018 or 2019 taxes, and have qualifying children under age 17, however, should not wait for their automatic $1,200 individual payment. They should immediately go to the IRS’s webpage and visit the Non-Filers: Enter Your Information section to provide their information. SSI recipients who have dependent children and did not file 2018 or 2019 taxes need to act by Tuesday, May 5, in order to receive additional payments for their eligible children quickly.

By taking this proactive step to enter information on the IRS website about them and their qualifying children, they will also receive the $500 per dependent child payment in addition to their $1,200 individual payment. If people in this group do not provide their information to the IRS soon, their payment at this time will be $1,200 only. They would then be required to file a tax year 2020 tax return to obtain the additional $500 per eligible child.

I urge SSI recipients with qualifying children and who do not normally file taxes to take action now. Immediately go to IRS.gov so that you will receive the full amount of the Economic Impact Payments you and your family are eligible for.

Lastly, a word of caution. Be aware of scams related to the Economic Impact Payments. There is no fee required to receive these payments. Don’t be fooled.

Why are Social Security recipients the poorest people in the bunch, having to wait until May?The emergency is now. So they need the money now.Why wait?

    Hi

  6. Nehmat b.

Hello, I receive SSI benefits starting March 2020, Iam 69 years old , I never filled tax’s, I have no income othe than I receive from Social security , do I need to apply a form with my bank info? Or automatically I will get the economy impact payment direct deposit to my account? Thanks, I have no children dependants

    • Patricdar

Yes, directly to your bank account

      • Hanging i.

No you will not get it automatically! You have to go to the website on IRS .GOV and put your info in. Or you can put info in on TurboTax site but don’t wait on getting it automatically, you haven’t been getting SSI long enough. Hope this helps! Good luck

        • Diane S.

Yes she will as long as her ssi is a direcyt deposit she will be fine. My mom just got hers. It certainly wouldnt hurt to go and enter your banking info into the irs. But ssi ppl will b getting money directly from Treasury. All the other ppl have gotten theirs off irs info….

      • Diane S.

        Your right… Shes fine

    • Debbie A.

The SSA states ppl like us, non-filers with no dependents who they already have our direct deposit info. will get it the same way we do our benefit check. But the latest from them for us is stating the first part of May!

      • Robert W.

Stimulus check is coming from the treasury department while your ssi will come from SSA DEPT. You may get your ssi first of May and a few day later the stimulus check. It’s also a possibility you may get both at same time. Be patient this is a gift as the GOV is under no obligation to make this arrangement. It. Could be 500 or even less!!!! Just hold on to the word of the treasury director and of course our President!!! He did not have to do this!

    • Harry

No if you just started getting SSI this year.. you have to wait till paper check

    • Tysha

Hello ms bazzi you have to do non filers being that you just got approved for sis benefits do it now go to the irs.gov and put your information in to non filers to make sure you get your 1200 dollar payment Anyone that’s new to sis or other social security benefits or who have dependents Meaning children most go through non filers best wishes.

If your ssi goes dirrectly into your own bank accout your all set. You dont have to do anything as long as the feds have your banking info!!

    • Marcia L.

Your fine you will automatically get one direct deposit

    • V.V.

Hi Nehmat, thank you for your question. Social Security retirement, survivors, or disability beneficiaries and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients who do not have qualifying children under age 17 do not need to take any action with the IRS. You will automatically receive your $1,200 economic impact payment directly from the IRS. You should receive the automatic payments by direct deposit, Direct Express debit card, or by paper check, just as you would normally receive your Social Security benefits. Treasury expects automatic payments for Social Security beneficiaries no later than the end of April and automatic payments for SSI recipients no later than early May. We hope this helps.

When will SSDi recipiens get their stimulas deposit or check. The IRS and the Treasurer including Social Security Office has been talking about tax payers and SSI people with depandents. WHEN SSDI are home bound and waiting?

    • Willie L.

What you only applied for SSDI ,and haven’t been approved yet!

    • Patriicia

I received mine last week , I was thinking maybe they go for the first letter of the alphabet? I just saying, mine start with the D

    • Debbie A.

The first part of April the SSA said within the next 3 weeks. Yesterday I read May 1st. Now it’s changed to ” the first part of May.”
I really wonder if we will even get it then. Beyond sad!
