I have received a call which I believe to be a scam– telling me that my social security number has been suspended and asked to call 215-284-5267. I did try to make a report to your hotline (300-269-0271) but was given a confusing but limited number of options and my requests/statements were not understood by the automated system.

On today, my husband, Michael A. Edinburgh called me at 10:39 a.m. to report that he just received a call from a person named Oscar Allen from the Social Security Administration at 10:20 a.m. today, 8/6/19, desk #4170, phone # 1822-798-7228. Mr. Allen stated to him that numerous bank account had been open in his name under his social security number and this was a case of money laundering and that he needed his banking account information, routing number, etc. I immediately asked if he had given him any information. Michael stated that he had not given him anything. I told him that the social security office will not call you directly and asked for this type of information and that this was a scam. He stated that he could hear a lot of noise in the background. He hung up the phone. I stated that still this was a scam and I would be reporting it to the Federal Trade Commission or the proper authorities. Seniors are a major target these days. Michael was at work at the time.
