Hi Virginia. Thanks for checking in with us. We do not usually make random calls. If anyone receives calls saying that they are from Social Security, do not give out any personal information. Suspicious calls should be reported to the Office of the Inspector General at 1-800-269-0271 or online. You can also report these scams to the Federal Trade Commission through a new site specific to Social Security scams, here. We hope this helps.

Hi I received a call with my recorded voice from 469-656-6039 after scheduling a callback when calling the 1-800-772-1213 number.

Please confirm that this was actually you and that I did not compromise myself.

Additionally, why does the social security office not have a better way of verifying identity over the phone especially when they are the ones saying beware of phone scams?

You make it difficult to report possible phishing scams.
each dept. directs you to someone else. You need a hot line to catch these crooks.
These are numbers being used to call:877.561.6918, 887.672.6081 877.595.7017, 877.561.6918

I received a call from a 279-777-1394 which I was to late to answer, then another call from a similar # 279-777-1340 which I was able to answer. There was a recording stating I was a victim of an exposed social security #, it then gave me options to call another # which I didn’t have time to write down or to press 1. I pressed one and my call went right to a person who stated his name which I couldn’t really understand, a strong Indian or Pakistani accent, he then asked me how he could help me. I explained what the recording told me and he said I was a victim of a stolen SS# then he asked me my name, address, I told him I didn’t believe the call or him and that I was going to call my own local SSA office.. then he hung up on me!! What nerve of that spammer/scammer… I guess he didn’t want to play the game any further. I called my local office, then the O.I.G. for SSA but there were too many calls ahead of me, probably reporting the same scam calls so I came here to report the incident. I knew it was a scam call from the start, I’ve already heard of these scams from the local news, but wanted to leave the ph#’s and any info that I learned from the call.
