SSA Talks - Commissioner O'Malley's Top PrioritesCommissioner Martin O’Malley joined SSA Talks to discuss his top priorities. Since being sworn in on December 20, 2023, Commissioner O’Malley has been focused on the most pressing issues facing the agency and three top priorities: 1) Reduce call wait times, 2) Issue faster disability decisions, 3) Resolve inequities in overpayments and underpayments.

In this 18-minute episode, Commissioner O’Malley discusses these challenges – and a path to improve customer service. He also explains how his new SecurityStat initiative drives data-driven decision making and change at a more rapid pace.

The episode is accompanied by a fact sheet and transcript.

I understand being short staffed and underfunded. I am a GS employee working overseas and have yet to understand why the system is set up to inconvenience us and expats. My Medicare Part B is suspended because my statement did not reach me on time. I was finally able to get through to a caring agent to change my mailing address with SSA after multiple tries. Now I have to figure out how to be reinstated or go without Part B coverage until open season starts.

I’m disabled and on SSI. I haven’t received my payment for June and July. I’ve called the Mpls Social Security office and left a message for my worker once a week for the last 4 weeks, with no response. I called today and asked to talk to my workers supervisor, or any supervisor, but was told by Bethany they were in meetings all day and would not be returning calls. She told me my payments were at the payment center, but she had no way of contacting them and I couldn’t contact them either. What’s my next move? What else can I do? Thank you.

Your overpayment program is bs now I know why it’s called social security it’s social program ran by a bunch of socialists commies . You no investigating on your so called overpayment. I sick and tired of fighting this overpayment bs. I proved I didn’t get 2 payments in one month and you refunded Part of it back but not all of why ? Because you all don’t know how to math like a 2nd grader . I also can’t finish the new government sign in one they don’t except voip numbers but it works just fine in my old account and my Philippines phone number isn’t excepted . The form to fill out to prove who I am is just USA and territories not other countries like the Philippines so system can’t find me but my info is there at ssa but not with this form get your head out of the clouds and fix these asinine problems. There is somebody in your call centers across the country that is stealing money like people like me my bank account gets changed all by itself really it’s happening with others to green dot back

I’ve been fighting them for years on my overpayment which they miscalculated by not following the law and their own policies and procedures. They said they recovered over $21,131.00 according to my SSA-1099’s in 2021 and 2022, but my overpayment balance has never reflected this and no one at SSA has explained where this money went. It’s financially creating a disaster for us and we are nearing losing our home and not being able to afford to live as I am 100% disabled and can barely breathe or walk and now will have to forgo medications I will not be able to buy and forgo food and everyday living expenses because SSA will not correct their mistakes and restore my benefits as they should be. And I know how they should be calculated as I was trained by SSA and worked for them as a Technical Claims Examiner in the Office of International Operations and know the law and regulations and am fully familiar with their procedure manual SSA POMS. Their current employees are basically lazy, do not properly do their jobs and are basically sitting on their asses collecting paychecks.

I lost my ssi without warning.
I can no longer live a balanced life or afford an mri to prove my disability which is hearing loss. I was also charged overpayment with no notice. I never earned over the SSA amount and when I could work, I reported it

I am poor now at 78 years old with no warning. I live off of under 450 dollars
